Leeds United (A) Post Match Thread

Ake needs to play at LB & Not Mendy. He is a disaster every time he plays against a decent team. Ferna needs to play either over Rodri or with him as we're too open in Midfield without him. Rodri is a tidy player but like Jorginho good when we have the ball not so much without it. Frustrating tbh how Pep persists with Mendy when its clearly not working.
Once Ferna & Ake came on we looked Solid & Leeds didnt look like scoring.
Hopefully Pep learns.
Peps a brilliant manager & knows far more than me & any of us about footy.
But we're all human & have Flaws. Pep is stubborn & that's his weakness for me. Dias & Laporte looked solid together & when we get Jesus & Aguero back we won't be so wasteful in front of goal.
Still early days & the teams currently above us will have injuries & dips etc
League might not happen but I'm confident we'll finish at least 2nd & win a cup or 2.
Onwards & upwards.

The Sterling pen was nothing. Absolutely nothing. Sterling goes to ground way too easily looking for a pen. Stay on your feet and try to score would be my advice. his first instinct is to earn a pen and not scoring.
Aguero would try to go on and make a shot while falling...

the handball imo is also not a pen because he was falling when it touched his arm. We saw some of these given previously but normal position of hands are different when falling or making a tackle/sliding in and it catches your arm in the middle of that.

Tackle on Bernardo imo a red card, very late and very dangerous with studs showing basically. Bernardo lucky not to get injury of that tackle.

Also the players confidence in our tactics is dropping quickly. They dont seem to be happy to play this expansive game with them going into panic mode as soon as they beat our midfield and arrive into our box.

While opponents confidence of doing well enough against City is growing. Thats the worst, tactically they manage to come up with a gameplan to hurt us, and if Leicester/Leeds can do it, top clubs will do it too.
They did alrady hence all the losses last season vs fucking Ole at the wheel, or 2x losses vs Wolves, or Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs etc.
Our record vs top6 was as bad as it gets.

This rot needs to stop before we end up in a battle for 4th place instead of fighting for the title until last round.
It would of been a penalty last week

Earlier poster mentioned where were our passing triangles in midfield.? We were a bit like headless chickens. Am prepared to be shot down here but Gundogan controls and dictates the tempo of our game in midfield. If I am shot down then I am in good company with Pep and Joachim Low.

This was no way a game for Gundogan to shine.

And lack of athletic balance in the squad.

We look like an old team.
To me you can't overlook the lack of presence we have in Fernadinho's old role with Rodri on the pitch.

We don't have Fern's quality in there anymore, but we also don't have the basics like the interceptions, the aggression and energy either. Rodri loses too many battles, and he's too easy to play against.

I think it's the weakest position in our side besides the obvious mess at LB.

Didn’t think it was tbh . If you watch it again he hardly touched sterling and you could say Dallas should have had a penalty in the first half if he went down . I thought it was an even game. I do think Dias and ake look good but mendy should be shipped off ASAP .
the tackle on sterling was a nailed on penalty, nowhere near the ball and got sterlings foot

Foden anonymous, Bernado 12 months out of form, no striker bought when we need a third option. Sterling is not a striker obviius when clean through twice and checked back. Also people underestimate what Gundogan does. He gets slaggedoff but does what Xavi did for Barca keeps the ball moving.

We do look like an old team. But we shouldn't, though. The average age of that starting outfield 10 players is 25. Leeds' outfield players averaged 26. We didn't have one player over 30 and the only player that is actually 30 is Walker, who is comfortably the best athlete at the club.

I really can't be arsed with this season if Liverpool are going to be allowed to walk it again, I'll just watch City games and ignore the rest of the league if they are out of sight by December again. What voodoo shit have they pulled at that club? Klopps barely had any problems to fix for about 3 seasons now. Not to mention VAR always works in their favour.

We played a team today, who were prefect for a City team to beat & almost lost.

That should be our concern imo.

If Liverpool have a season like the last one, ee are almost out of it already.

But if they don't, we are currently pissing the title away, without them even having to.

He made a couple of poor mistakes, but without him covering so much ground, we would have lost.
Was more in his element when the game was end to end and he could show his better qualities, but first half showed his liability. No attacking aptitude and made couple of mistakes in the last league which seems to have affected him, is now playing too deep and missed quite a few stray balls and interceptions/pressing situations when mahrez and foden dribbled on the right and leeds right back and right cm pressed.
He has not adapted well to us using a inside forward where he has to provide the width outside.

Exactly. We have needed more athletes in the squad for some years. We can then fit in a few skilled crabs, as we like to, without it costing us. Balance.

We know we aren't 100% though and so did Leeds, who I think you're selling short a bit there. We should be beating them yes but it was always going to be a tricky tie where we needed to be at our best... So to put it another way, we weren't anywhere near our best and still nearly won.

We are getting nowhere near the League this year I’m afraid. Two shots on target from 23 attempts says it all. We’re missing that ruthlessness that we had a couple of years ago and we’ll have more days like today and last week. I suspect that we may finish below Utd this year, although still top 4.

Fernandinho - I think ( I was at the back of the pub apologies if incorrect) had a few runs at players which opened things up a bit in the area and again helped by ake. Think this is what we need to do more
