Leeds Utd v City - 1976/77 FA Cup

That was the third round tie in January 78.

Watching this though, just before it shows Corrigans save, it showed a Leeds player get fouled and get straight back up without rolling around for ten minutes. The same with there goal, Cherry was fouled, got up and scored.

Oh for a return to real football instead of todays sterilised game.... or am I just being nostalgic.
I remember Corrigans save described as the Save of the Century during the MOTD commentary and it finished second in MOTDs Save of the Season in their end of year poll....wtf Was too young to 'experience' 70s Leeds away but bring them back to the PL. Whatever you think of them great loyal following home and away. Much better than having 200 Palace or Hull fans. Hope Monk gets them up

Yes if my memory serves me right we were to the right of the goals in the open end and the police at first were allowing the geordies to give us a kicking. For some reason (probably panic) I headed to the centre spot and sat down where Mick Doyle politely told me to fcuk off. Anyway I was threw out but blagged my way back in again 5 minutes later.
Every time I went to St James Park in them days there was always some drama, not proud to confess but I woke up in a police cell at 10pm after the 4-3 title winning game in 1968 and was charged with drunk and disorderly. It wasn't the £3 fine that still annoys me it was the fact I didn't get to see all the game and the celebrations after.
If I recall it right there was an overspill from the gallow gate end and kids were getting crushed so the dibble let geordie kids into our end, so of course the big lads followed and carnage ensued, we won the game, but we sure as shit didn't win the fight

Let me guess, on the BBC ... the goalie from a certain team in Trafford won?

I was at the cup game we won 2-1, huge City following that day. I think I was about 13 years old. I remember leeds fans coming on the pitch, and then some City fans started to go on the pitch. Dennis Tueart came over to the City fans and pleaded with them to get back.

Aaaah Snackpot 'eh. My family are all in Marple-on-Sea.

Where does the NefynBlue come from mate ?

I've had a place near Nefyn near Abersoch for years. I was down there when I joined Bluemoon forum, hence the username !. I don't post much on here but I couldn't resist the Leeds away thread. Great days eh ?.

First went to Abersoch in 1962/3. Stayed on the Warren,32 small caravans.

Changed a bit since then 'eh ?? Played golf a couple of times at Nefyn. Nice track with some great sea front holes.

Best wishes mate.

Yes you're correct. The Warren has become very expensive, and the peninsula has great golf courses including Nefyn. It's a far cry from the Kippax of the early seventies eh ?. Us old un's need to remind some of these younger fans what it meant to follow the Blues 40 years ago. It was so far removed from the "match day experience" we have today.

I'm not saying that I want the old days back again, watching City is so easy nowadays compared to the pre Premier League days. But it might lessen the moaning and groaning about minor aspects relating to the modern day Etihad match day experience that some on here post.

We are commencing a golden period in our history, watching genuinely world class footballers wearing the blue shirt, yet some complain about every minor set back as if it's the end of the world. Please keep it real fellow blues. The coming years could be absolutely fantastic. If not, it won't be for the lack of intent and effort from our marvellous owners. I believe we are truly blessed.

If you adhere to the ' agenda theory', then ask yourself why it appears that FIFA, UEFA, the FA, PGMOL, the old guard ' big 4' and every media outlet in the UK are against us ?.

It's because they fear what we are capable of with our owners backing.

Let's not fall for the media spin. The negativity regarding anything City related is designed to destroy our great club. It's obvious now, they don't even try to hide it.

Sorry it's off thread, got carried away.

Great memories that day at Leeds was lively as fuck going off before during and after. Had to go back to Leeds after game on one of there football specials. Hid scarf but sat on bus reading Football Pink from Evening News van outside the ground. Also went to Brum 77/78. Won 4-1 and left before end as not safe to stay. Coach car park was full. Loads of City left early. Balmy Titlon army looking for City all over.

Another top day was going to Newcastle in early 80's lost 5 nil to Waddle, Beardsley and Keegan. Going off all over the place. Atmosphere top fantastic noise from Geordies. Went on special with 500 matched through town centre with Geordies all locked in pubs banging to get out.

I too used do these sort of trips in late 70's early 80's (although not this one). Great fun and what an adrenalin buzz.

I was only 13/14 yrs old when I first went on the special to an away game. There is no way I'd allow my own sons to do that now - how times have changed.

Goin on the specials was the safest way to go to games, you almost always got a escort to the grounds.
Me and mates used to prefer gettin the regular trains so we could hav a few pints and used to end up in some right shit as a result.

Yes I agree with you here, although "safest" at the time is a bit different to walking out of away grounds these days.

The worst thing about police escorts was if you were one of the people who had made your own way there and had to try and slip away unnoticed.

And yes when I was a bit older - the feeling of that moment of opening the doors and walking into a random pub in another town knowing "anything could happen in the next half hour" - priceless.
