This was my first away game. What a day.
Mine too. I got a bollocking as my dad heard me utter “Jesus Christ” under my breath.

I know where you coming from mate - that was my era too - but I wouldn’t want my kids/grandkids to experience what we did in those days just to watch a game of footballThat was fantastic viewing. A whole different world. Football today is an anodyne sanitised borefest compared to the old days. Makes you feel sorry for today’s youngsters who will never experience that kind of excitement
As in " c'mon we're off to the Duky scraps after shcool".
Going to Leeds away was fuck all compared to the Duky/Newton scraps on Devils HillAs in " c'mon we're off to the Duky scraps after shcool".
For those unaware the Duky/Newton scraps were pre arranged fights in the 70s - think there may have been a few more similar rivalries around Manchester at the time - Dane Bank/Gorton springs to mind - anyone else remember any more ?Hmmm I think you were off for scraps before school, (:
Yeah, the pitched battles between Heaton Moor and Heaton Mersey over which local garden centre was the best really were a sight to behold. For those unaware the Duky/Newton scraps were pre arranged fights in the 70s - think there may have been a few more similar rivalries around Manchester at the time - Dane Bank/Gorton springs to mind - anyone else remember any more ?

They brought thousands to Maine rd Boxing Day 1987 .Platt Lane almost full.and they were loud.I went wirh my Dad when Trevor Cherry scored late on. We had an army there. They never brought anybody until 1992 when we won 4 0.
I knew the area well as a kid in the fifties. Biked all over and played a thousand games in Wythenshawe park. Used to catch the 64 bus to Ringway to see the planes. Went to school in Northenden. Lived close by Sharston. Memories.........Always make me laugh bramhall, Cheadle, gatley, Hale, altrincham????? All posh areas!! And wythenshawe their noisy neighbours:) but what a place to grow up right near the airport, river bollin, wythenshawe park was top!! City used to train there. Some very fond memories
