Leeds Vs Man City FA Cup Jan. 7th. 1978

Used to drink in The Peacock before the games, always a smashing time there.
Had some good times in there over the years.kicked off a few times as well.
There is just something really attractive about the nearest pub to the ground...even ay Leeds.lol

It is. Shame for Gary Owen too. Not sure Peter Barnes had the mental strength to make it at the very top, though.
Barnes looked like a 1 trick pony towards the end of his City days. .
Highlights. .league cup final header, chipping Pat Jennings at Maine rd
As we battered Spurs, and terrorising a quality Italian fullback for England at Wembley..(Tardelli?) A performance I ll never forget

Oh, Barnes’ highlights were incredible; but as you suggest, he never went in to fulfil his talent. Shame.

Remember him going to the dark side for Atkinson? and feeling truly devastated

funny enough other than the odd goal for them don't remember feeling overly fussed

At least he has come back into the fold - underused as a pundit but always refers to us as 'we'

Yeah, no question he’s a big Blue.

He’s a really good pundit tbf.

Proper football, loads of City, think it was the game where that Wogan song was in the charts and as the brass band went by playing it I managed to launch a pie into an instrument from the Lowfields. Went as a 14 year old on my own on the train (football special?) From Victoria & off at Stalybridge on the way back to meet my parents at my Grans in Ducky.

Scary as fuck getting back to the railway station & not good being penned in a corner by the coppers until the train arrived to give the local inbreads target practice for chucking bricks at us.

Think it was Claudio Gentile. Legendary Italian well known for kicking lumps out of attackers, but he couldn’t get near Barnes that night

Steve Coppell also made his debut that night on the other wing
