I'm disappointed we didn't get to find out. He was very good in pre-season, Bayern are hardly shite yet he was solid. Cancelo was fucking dire against the dippers. What a test for the lad it could have been getting a run out against Salah.

The fact we had two games prior meant we had to use the game on Saturday for the squad to prepare for Sunday so Cancelo had to play. Let's remember who plays at full back for Liverpool. Not exactly big money signings were they! Yet they got their chance and impressed.

Defensively it doesn't take much to improve on Cancelo. In most games he will be the starter, but I felt like Liverpool saw him as a weakness and targetted him and Ake knowing he couldn't play comfortably on his left side and closed the routes into Rodri/Grealish to force him into mistakes.
Spot on.

Our pre season/prep has been a joke.

The Tramps very much targeted our achilles on Sunday, hopefully it was a wake up call for Pep.

I quite like the look of (Caio Henrique) from Monaco. 2 goals and 8 assists in 31 starts in the French league last season. Good all rounder could be an option at left-back and would get on well with the Brazilian players most likely.

If we really need a stop-gap option I wouldn’t be against a move for Jordi Alba. I highly doubt Barcelona would sell but it would be worth a go.
No more LB's from Monaco, thank you.

Bit of a left field call for a left back, but what do people think of Kyle Waler Peters from Southampton?

Can play either side, played as a left back for England youth team's, home grown, 25. Not exactly the let back specialist we are looking for but if a deal could be done at the price we wanted cucurella for, would we bite?

Personally I like the look of the right back they have but believe he has a £25m buy back with Chelsea.

If you watch the documentary it's our strategy to play less games in pre season so that players stay fit towards the end of season

Think Southampton want £40 mil for him and imo he is not very good

Two games where one was interrupted due to a lightning storm and then the Community Shield is not the right prep. No other team has played so little. Rotating through the season and utilising the 5 subs and having a bigger squad would all help fitness at the end of the season more than an extra pre-season friendly would harm it.

Well as per the documentary this is their planing very season. Since they are professionals all they must know better , I guess.plan is to Not play lot of pre season and use first few matches of PL as substitute for it . They have the barca friendly also

Your right mate. Haven't got a fucking clue that Pep fella and his coaches.

Don't know how to prep a team to win a title.

Bring back Hughes and Mark Bowen.

Would make a lot of sense, Tolmie mentioned him in April.

Basically the Zinchenko story, attacking midfielder, huge prospect at youth level, converted to left back and was brilliant for Vinny last year.

More of an overlapping, front foot left back than Zinny though.
Do you have the Tolmie post?

Anyway, this is the one I wanted all along. Quick add his name to the vote -:)

Good thing about him is that the club would know everything about him by asking Vinny...which means we know exactly how he is. So if we decide to go for him, I am pretty sure he will be a very good player for us.

Anyone know/have watched him previously? Can he challenge Cancelo at LB?

On the one hand it seems like we were all in for Cucurella. Though perhaps the fee suggest otherwise So any other player feels like a let down and I also worry is therefore a pointless block on JWE. That being said if the player is older or marginally inferior he might get more games but then he won’t if we end up going for another left back down the line so we have two conventional left backs rather than a left back and right back who plays left back. Anyway there must be options out there I just don’t know who or who is best

Just want the window over and season to start and see what happens to Kabore JWE Rico and of course win the league etc again

If we were 'all in', he'd already be here. Clearly there is a budget here and it seems we can't get Cucurella for that amount.
