Left Back

Who should we sign at left back?

Ake and Laporte can play there and stay deep as an extra CB

Zin and Cancelo can play there and tuck into midfield, albeit one attacking one defensively.

What we need is someone who can overlap and provide width, that option would definitely see the full benefit of Grealish as the opposition wouldn't be able to double up on him.
 
We won't sign a left back. Cancelo is our first choice left back now at least until walker is finished and possibly even beyond as he seems better on the left. we have zinchenko who has proven time and time again to be a very accomplished left back, never let's us down and a vital squad member. That's our two left backs, in addition we have Ake who is more than a cb playing out of position, he's played there a lot throughout his career and is a good option there. Laporte is an emergency choice.

If we sign a fullback it will be a right back, there's less options there, it's walker, then our first choice left back then stones who isn't as good of a fit there then any of the 4 left back options.

I don't believe we will sign any fullbacks this summer though. The defensive balance is good, it's just about manageable to keep them all happy with their roles, an extra body means less games for them all and then suddenly we've got 2/3 unhappy next summer. Unless there's an unexpected departure I don't think we touch the defensive side of our squad this summer other than replacing dinho.

Porro is on loan but there is an option to buy.

Yeah this guy could be really good. Brighton in a good position financially though so would probably cost a few quid. Not sure we will do it given we obviously have to prioritise a striker and midfielder replacement for Dinho.
 
I'm sure we must have a left back in the ranks who is at least competent at left back?

Zinchenko, Cancelo and Ake can play there but none of them are hugely convincing for me although none of them do a bad job either.

I'm surprised we've not managed to find a youth player who can at least play left back when we're playing the likes of Norwich, Watford etc.

I’d agree with Zinny and Ake but Joao has been immense playing left back. Should make the team of the year from that berth IMO. I’m not disputing that we need an out and out left back but it’s not desperate like ST and CDM.
 
someone has already put him up,but that lad from brighton, cut his hair and he would do the business for us, think he is an ex barca player (under pep?)whenever i've seen him he looks good on the ball, good defensively and good going forward, don't think hes that old either about 23/24 ?

Cucurella. Just a la Masia product that couldn't make it at Barca, Brighton did well to get him. I'd take him as long as he doesn't throw a fit and also want to go back to Spain after a season or two as well.

We don’t need someone competent we need someone consistently great there
 
Pep has never played with a reckonised left back at City so think it would be least priority. Love Zinc & how hes thought for his chance for his position but can only see us signing a left back if someone offers £30m.

Other than Spurs & Lfc, who targeted the space left by Cancelo, can see Ake, Zinc & Cancelo being adequate cover for Pep.

I would love us to look at Lamptey as Walkers long term replacement
