Leicester (League Cup) - Post Match Thread.

Ok fair do’s. I agree that putting him in there against a decent high tempo midfield could end badly for us

He played safe, and I bet his stats are really good. But it's such a key position in transitioning, spoting overloads, turning and looking forward whilst the opposition are out of shape or when opposition players are behind and out of the game and reacting quickly. I think it's the biggest reason we looked shit all match. He played safe triangles with the centre backs, turned and it was too late. Doesn't matter anyway, we're through and Pep would have learnt a lot, plus we got minutes into key players so it's all good.

He's not a real full back though is he? He's a midfielder who gets asked to play at full back and then moves into midfield as per instructions because we are short in that department. It's like saying Sane/ Sterling are forwards. They play there when requested but it's not their first position. Sure Pep is molding him, or trying to, but it's not a position that seems natural to him.

So you are right, he's not good enough at full back.

And others are right in saying he's not a full back.

'Others' are making a pointless point.

He is a fullback at City, because he has been here for years & never ever plays anywhere else.

He has been playing there for some time now & is still the last person on the pitch to react when there is a defensive situation needs attention.

It doesn't matter what he used to do, he may be our 1st choice fullback, if Delph gets injured.

Which means our best cb, Laporte, will end up playing as a shit fullback, rather than a brilliant centre back.

Absolute stonewaller when Ice Cube brought Jesus down on 85 mins. The ref is a cheating ****.

Foden and Muric really impressive.

Diaz isn’t good enough and I say that based on every one of his games I’ve watched.

Don’t know what’s going on with Mahrez but he’s so hot and cold it’s ridiculous.

Zinc is technically good but quite apart from maybe having to learn positionally how to play LB, he just isn’t quick enough.
Now what’s Walker’s excuse. Because the only reason he’s playing RB is he’s quick.
In my view Zinc is a squad player and I’m glad he stayed, but he’s no more of a liability than Walker who constantly gives the ball away and hasn’t much technique as far I can see.

He is though, by a long way.

Walker seems to be having a mental breakdown, but he's still miles miles miles better at defending than Zinchenko will ever be & has pace to cover others & height/physique to cover others as he did with Garcia on headers tonight.

Walker could do with a rest. Zinchenko could do with being replaced completely at fullback & if we don't think he will make it in midfield, sold.

Don’t forget this time last year we hadn’t won a trophy under Pep and we were on a massive high with our run of wins in the league.

This season feels very different. There isn’t that pressure of the need to win something and there’s actually a title race this season.

I reckon tonight was more about getting the young lads, de Bruyne and Kun minutes for Pep than it was the win. I don’t think he’d have minded going out tonight that much at all. Maybe even less so if we’d got a tougher CL draw in the week of the final.

Good points. I suppose it's all about striking the right balance and managing the squad so that they are in the best possible shape for the last couple of months. As such, only time will tell what effect remaining in this competition will have.
