Leicester (N) - Community Shield | Post-Match Thread

Further up the pitch…

Ferna looked leggy and rusty, but his class will always shine through.

Palmer looked impressive throughout and hope we don’t loan him out. Never looked out of his depth. Edozie seemed a bit overawed at first and like he was trying too hard, but started to shine in the second half and then had to come off with cramp. Still very promising and no criticism at all, as there shouldn’t be for the young lads. Hell, we’ve been asking Pep repeatedly to play them and so they need time and our support.

Jack looked composed in tight spaces and will add a new dimension to the team for sure. Was amused to see so many young fans wearing headbands!!

Torres barely touched the ball and was a passenger. OK the service wasn’t great, but top players will find a way into the game and he definitely didn’t!

not going to lose any sleep over this defeat and instead take the positives of the youngsters getting a run out.

I was really disappointed with the game and the team to be honest.

I know it's a friendly, but it's a trophy and I'd rather we tried to win them. In my view, the Community Shield is hard to win as it's the league v FA Cup winners. It's not one of these "about the top 4 get in" Cups. You've got to win a major English honour to play in it.

I can understand playing Mendy, Ake and even Fernandinho to give them some game time. However, if you're going to play the youth players, you should do it gently and one at a time. I'm sure they will all have decent careers, but I don't think it did them any favours against a strong Leicester side.

Leicester deserved it overall I thought. We looked tired and unbalanced really.

We would have won with KDB, they would have had no chance without Vardy. It is annoying to lose but a bit of prospective is needed.

A little pick me up would have been nice because we ended the season on a bum note losing the CL final in the way that we did even though we were PL champions but still doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things we didnt play too badly today still massively concerned if we dont buy a striker though.
I’m more concerned about LB than I am about a striker. Whoever we play, we are wide open and will always be targeted down that side.

Pep can’t win. He gets told to blood players in the Academy and when he does he gets criticised for it.

The performance was fine given everything and the result isn’t important.

We will suffer in the first month then fight back.

Who gives a fuck what villa fans think?

First half we looked what we were - very rusty. Second half we found our feet and were on top most of the time without being too threatening. Edozie was overawed first half but showed some of what he can do in the second. Palmer was very good when he switched from the right after the subs. Grealish is going to have to work harder on getting free kicks now he's at football's "enemy club".

No argument with the pen, Ake made a mess of the challenge but Rodri's back passes are sloppy at times.
Totally agree.

I know we don’t care what other fans think of us but it does seem that the villa
Fans are trying to cultivate a rivalry
