Leicester (N) - Community Shield | Post-Match Thread

I was really disappointed with the game and the team to be honest.

I know it's a friendly, but it's a trophy and I'd rather we tried to win them. In my view, the Community Shield is hard to win as it's the league v FA Cup winners. It's not one of these "about the top 4 get in" Cups. You've got to win a major English honour to play in it.

I can understand playing Mendy, Ake and even Fernandinho to give them some game time. However, if you're going to play the youth players, you should do it gently and one at a time. I'm sure they will all have decent careers, but I don't think it did them any favours against a strong Leicester side.

Leicester deserved it overall I thought. We looked tired and unbalanced really.
I think the young players would have learned a lot from that game, more than another EDS game.

I know we cant question the manager but it proves counter productive. Gundo said in an interview after CL loss against Chelsea " manager changed the formation for final and it shouldn't be". It's a problem when they or anyone doesn't voice it . Yes pep knows the best but players don't feel comfortable when they have to do that. This happened against Lyon as well.

Again this is a general opinion and nothing about this game
I hope that my post didn't come across as a dig, it wasn't meant like that but no matter the result or the performance, I don't comment on Pep or the system just because my football manager experience is solely based on a PC game that I played religiously.

It's always easy to point towards the manager when things don't click but we really don't have any insight into the overall fitness (physically or mentally) of the players, we don't get to see the intrinsic planning of our staff for every opponent and we can't understand the mind of our manager. I will say that there were times last season where I was screaming for a 4-3-3 that was so effective at times but at the end of the day, we're being piloted by the greatest mind footballs ever seen and that's fine in my book.

Again, apologies if my post was taking as a dig - hope you enjoy your weekend mate!

Too many changes made it a big ask against a strong Leicester.

The young lads were certainly thrown in at the deep end, but I thought they did as well as could be hoped for. In fact Palmer really stood out in Foden-fashion and Edozie definitely grew in the second half and started to cause problems. I feel the experience did neither of them any harm at all!

I didn’t think it was a penalty, as Nacho pulled Nathan back, causing Aké to fall and catch Kelechi's legs. It was a foul, but to City, not against.

On a positive note, though, it was a good workout for the boys, especially Palmer and Edozie. Neither looked out of place and both deserve their place in the senior squad.

Never noticed Torres until the change of ends.
Mahrez at his lazy arsed worse.
Crowds back and he is back at his worst.
Fernandinho and Gundogan couldn't find a City man with a pass all game.
Cancelo you do wonder how he can be so great one week and shite the next.
The Euros are going to play a massive part in the start of the season.
Still good to be back and just hope we can get more fitness back for next week.

Didn’t deserve to win with that line up which was mostly the reserves/B team against pretty much the Leicester starting XI.
Having said that, the game was there for the taking and, but for Ake switching off, our reserves could have taken a decent Leicester team to penalties.

I’m sure with the way the game panned out that Pep will have wanted to win that.
Doesn’t bode well for the league campaign that we have so many main players who are yet to train, let alone play a minute.

It could be a challenging first month, keep your expectations low!!

Dias, Steffen and Grealish were top, Edozie second half was good. Not much else on anyone else

Rodri is toilet and I can't believe we face another season this reliant on him.

People will focus on Ake's error, but miss the fact that Rodri received the ball in space with an opportunity to get his head up and be positive to put us on the counter. Options all around him. Instead, he takes a touch with his head down, turns his back on everyone and plays a hopeless backpass to Ake, who was pointing up the pitch and had a man on him. I've watched it back and even Dias was pointing up the pitch when Rodri played that ball. Then what happened happened.

Rodri is absolute gash and this is a persistent trend with him. He isn't good enough. This should be a priority postion for us to strengthen, just as much as upfront for me.
