I think it's a general City attitude problem. We know we're good, but we almost expect every team to adapt to us, and we just carry on playing like we always do. It's a tad disrespectful and we come unstuck far too often doing so.
Most top teams have a bad day at the office, and in isolation, you might be forgiven for thinking this was such an occasion. Sadly, it's no such thing - this is a fairly consistent pattern in much the same way as Arsenal continue to fail to strengthen. Time and again we make similar mistakes. Overrun midfield, pitting Yaya against a high energy and damn fast opposition. It's asking for trouble.
There are some mitigating circumstances, such as injuries and heavy fixture schedule, but it's clutching at straws as a defence for today's performance (and others like it).
I fear for us against Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal, and I dare say Chelsea could be problematic too. Why? because we already know that they will up their game against us, and their workrate will be phenomenal (running on adrenalin). I can't remember the last time I saw us truly put in a phenomenal amount of effort.
You could substitute the word we for Pellegrini and it would be just as true.
Unfortunately Spurs and Liverpool are the next two league games. If we show no response to this then we need to be looking behind us rather than above. With the injuries we have I can't see us winning either despite how shit Liverpool are currently.
