Leighton Baines

I agree entirely. Both Evra and Cole are both far better than Baines. But that's not what either of us were saying mate. Baines WAS the best Left Back in the league last year, And by a clear margin.

Yea I noticed that after I posted and was gonna add that I agree that Baines probably had a better season than Evra, not so sure what Cole did so badly wrong though?

I also agree that he isn't worth £20M, But Everton will get that for him or around that figure.

You think? There's only one club I could see paying that for him and that's us. Chelsea and the rags won't buy him because they've already got superior left backs, Arsenal maybe? Normally they wouldn't spend anywhere near that but I s'pose you never know now they're under so much pressure to spend

Either way, I think he'd be a poor signing for us and it'll take more than 1 good season for me to be convinced that he can solve our left back problem

It might be the only way we can shift some players...........if you know what i mean!
swap one of undesirables for baines plus cash

Only if Everton is willing to give us fair value on swapped players and Baines. No need to bend over and take it from Moyes. Not that im worried our staff would.

Cole wasn't aweful last season but he was average in comparison to his high standards. Baines was just butter, Weather that's his one season of class taht a lot of mediocre players get, I dunno. His ability on the ball, range/accuracey of passing and lethal crossing however are undeniable. But yeah, there are better out there who we could realisticly get

I think that's the main point myself. People juged Cole and Evra's seasons by the world class standards that they've set repeatedly year on year, whereas Baines has been judged based upon the average seasons he's had every previous year in the prem. No doubt he had a great season though

Baines is being judged on scoring a few pens and assisting a couple goals last season.

He's an average left back and i honestly don't think he'd add anything we don't already possess in Kolarov and Zabaleta.

As Hombre said, its only one season, and even then i don't remember his stand out defensive displays. I remember him costing 8mil in FF and being on pen duty.

Who are our Homegrown players....Hart, Taylor, Richards, Lescot, Barry, Milner, M. Johnson, A. Johnson, Wright-Phillips? That's 9. We need 8 so we just scrape by...but will Swp and MJ stay and do we need better ( i.e. Foreign) players in key positions. I think these questions will shape our decisions re Baines or Cahill. We might have to bring in less than the best just because they are homegrown.
