Tuttosport - #Bonucci, the #Juve says no to Manchester City. engagement retouching, but the case should close quickly

I'd be inclined to believe Juve will hold onto him at this stage, unless they prioritise keeping Pogba instead. To be fair though, another year with Pogba, while wonderful, wouldn't do much to stave off interest from other teams, while Bonucci's value may never be higher than right now. It's a complex situation, made more unusual due to City's lust after Kroos, but in the end just seems a little too ambitious, even for Pep.

Juve saying no will change if bonnuci says yes though?

In theory yes. Juve would be obligated to move him on if he expresses the desire to leave, however it seems neither Bonucci nor Juve want to appear to be the bad guy to the fans.

If Juve play this well they could get value from Bonucci now and from Pogba next year or the year after. Bonucci needs to go now if they are to realize any value from him. Of course they may think Pogba is being hugely over valued right now - no way does his value to the Juve team match the figures being quoted - and if they wait his value may fall so they may choose to cash in on him and keep Bonucci who on balance is more important to them. My hunch is that Bonucci will get a pay rise and stay at Juve, Pogba will go to Real and we will have to settle with the consolation prize of Kroos!

Which may possibly be exactly what we want. Following this line of thinking our bid for Bonucci can even be seen as a way of putting pressure on Real to up their offer for Pogba to get him before Juve makes big money from a Bonucci sale.

I like your Machiavellian thinking!!!! You're good.

You're giving Txiki way too much credit for that.

There's way too much pointing to actual genuine interest from City's end - Pep's history of admiration for Bonucci, the Laporte deal falling through, Bonucci's agent flying out to Manchester, etc. It always seemed unlikely from the get-go that Juventus would part ways with Bonucci, heck it smacked of a bid just for the hell of it, but there's been actual genuine traction since that would point to something more than forcing Real Madrid's hand.

Best way to get Real to land Pogba is pay them for him, via a Kroos sale. Zidane wants Pogba. Real know they won't see a transfer window for three years due to bans and they need to pick up their next Galactico now before Modric falls out of form. Pogba wants to go Real and not the rags. It's all the perfect storm, but it seems the only thing holding back a deal is the exorbitant price tag.

As for Bonucci, Juventus seem to be doubling down on not moving him on, either to further increase his value or the outright refusal to sell one of their most iconic and beloved players. Who knows? But it would be a shame to end the transfer window with neither Bonucci or Kroos.

Why are people pitting this as Juve choosing between Pogba and Bonucci? I don't think the two cases are really related in any way, to be honest. I think Pogba might leave (although that's not a given), whilst Bonucci is definitely staying and will be one of Juve's main leaders/captains after Buffon retires (together with Marchisio and Chiellini).

Juve don't really need the money, so the talk of getting value by selling him this year is slightly redundant. If Juve get 60m or whatever amount for him, there isn't really anybody as good as Bonucci that they could spend that money on, so their team would be weaker. Juve don't want to make money, they want to try winning the CL, and they can only do that by holding on to their best players. So the only way one of their top players leaves is if he asks to, and I struggle to believe that Bonucci will want to go anywhere, given that he has frequently expressed his desire to end his career at Juve.

Top Italians don't leave their home land.
Real Madrid came calling for totti every season for about 5 years running circa 2001-2006 but he refused to be a galatico.
Del peiro also turned down United and Madrid.
Can't see bonucci leaving its not a proud Italians way

Maybe Ota could be the CB you speak of mate, he's had a year to adapt and Peps coaching could improve him. He was excellent some games last season and his biggest flaw imo is his positioning and in the pep book pep trained Javi Martinez to improve his positioning to peps style

I hope your right. Only because I have it in my head that one of Mangala/Otamendi must surely work out lol!

From a footballing point of view I'm not convinced. Ota doesn't strike me as a pep player. Given we have been chasing pep for so long I'd have thought one or two of our signings would have worked this into our thought process.
