Leroy Sané

Would you have Sane back?

TBF you said it would be a "fucking massive upgrade" which it most definitely wouldn't be. I can't see us taking him back anyway, not even Pep can give him his speed back and that was one of his major pluses.
He hit higher top speeds in the bundesliga last year than he ever did in the prem. Showed it when he outpaced John pretty easily in CL, and John is one of our faster centre backs.

Mahrez scored 8 goals (2 pens) last season in 39 combined PL/CL games playing wide forward in the best side in the world. IMO Sane would provide a massive upgrade on this. RWF is one of the few positions in this team that is genuinely up for grabs. I agree with you that I don’t think it will happen but given the choice, I would rather take the “gamble” on Sane, than have Mahrez there for another year.
Sane scored 12 goals in combined BL/CL games and 14 overall (15 for Mahrez), that's not a massive upgrade.

I wonder if true that we are surprised/disappointed at certain players wanting to leave and therefore worried about recruitment as not much time as normal that this plays in favour for making a move for Leroy.

We have been beaten to rice, rejected by Bellingham. Apparently Sané wants back so no issues there. Sane knows the club, the club know him. Some people on here may not want him back but you’d be lying if you said he wasn’t a great player, he is.

Also rumours of Walker going to Bayern so communication with the club might be happening already.

I really hope this happens.

would LOVE leroy back

I'm sorry to disturb the romantic memories of 2018 and the second we all gone mad when he scored vs dippers,
but in a more realistic and 2023 view Leroy AGAIN had a very let's say mixed season. Inconsistent throughout the 4 Bayern years, with a very low level of resilience. That's no news.
Hasn't the pace and power of pre ACL, sadly. More reluctant.
Bayern fans would carry him back to City. Germany fans feel the same disappointment again and again.

This ship has sailed. Pep knows him inside out. Pep doesn't want to put an arm around players and pamper them, nor be their mum. Pep even doesn't feel responsible for the player's motivation - he expects a top attitude as the first point on the check list.

Pep hasn't been able to get the best level out of Leroy that talentwise is in him, like Kovac, Flick, Nagelsmann and Low. Hoping for the big change is not based on facts, it must be something else. Tuchel will hate Leroy's body language, that's for sure.

If we really are in the position that Leroy would be the only available alternative replacing Mahrez (who I would keep in that case) we would be in some shite. I trust Txiki and Pep to come up with a better solution going forward, not 2 steps back.

Added to that, he wouldn't even be 'cheap'. Hoeness wouldn't want to let Leroy leave, he brought him to Bayern. €60m minimum IMO.

He’s not a great player imo, certainly not now. Did show greatness in part at City previously imo.
He’s good, but nothing more. I get some stick for being so positive I’m deluded but I’d be disappointed if we signed him.

Fair enough we can agree to disagree on that one.

I do think there’s something to knowing what he’ll bring as opposed to buying someone untested, Phillips could be an example but so could countless other players that have done well here. My point is you never know what you are signing unless done loads of work on them which appears we haven’t.

Out of interest who would you be pleased with if we signed them?
