German national arrogance is ridiculous.
I’ve first hand experience, as I was heavily involved in American football. I once spoke to the head of the German American football league and they were frothing at the mouth that a lad left their league to play for the New England Patriots.
I pissed myself laughing that they genuinely saw this as a slap in the face when the reality was the two leagues are 100 levels apart, but they couldn’t wrap their head around why he’d leave Germany.
I saw what happened with Leroy and saw the exact same thing playing out.
Sounds as you just paint the picture you want to see, re Germany in general?
WTF has that unnamed and unknown Am. football bloke to do with DFB? That's apples and oranges, and you know that.
I also thought it was a mistake not to add Leroy to the 2018 WC squad as I never have rated Julian Brandt for his soft attitude.
But Leroy hadn't changed anything there, the 'title defender' couldn't cope with the pressure and had too many problems in many areas. And yes, one of them was German arrogance, absolutely.
But it's no secret that the old guard in the squad, lead by Kroos, Muller or Hummels, were being pissed off by Leroy's attitude and had enough influence on Low to not be wanted in the locker room.
Ask Gundo for more details, he was right there! But as the gentleman he is, he would only smile and be silent.
I'd say Leroy is still immature, feels weak and insecure about himself, consequently doesn't accept criticism and that's a general problem on top level. That's Leroy in a nutshell. Pep couldn't handle that, Nagelsmann is helpless, as is Hansi Flick. All of them have given up any attempts to help him for missing outcome and simply passing over the responsibility to himself to deliver - or not. It's his final chance before leaving top level and hopefully finding the right level without too much pressure where he can play footy and be a happy man. Rich he is anyway.
Probably Leroy will miss another World Cup. Maybe he's lucky as the squads are extended to 26 players. I doubt that.
