I think I know what he means, kind of. Lescott is a pure defender, whereas Kompany is a quality footballer. Some of the best Centre Half partnerships in Premier League history have had this balance. Bruce and Pallister, Ferdinand and Vidic, spring to mind. Imo, we look more solid when Lescott partners Kompany rather than Toure.

Except that Kompany is a better defender and a better footballer than Joleon.

The explanation to this is pretty simple - Lescott is English.

Yep, cant see any other reason other than gale's usual bias clouding his views. Not that Lescott is a bad defender, but Vinnie is the much more complete player

I saw and heard a lot of Joleoninho when he was at EFC and I think he is just about shedding the £20M odd tag. He is a CB not an FB. He is more comfortable at CB where he is not expected to do much beyond sending the ball out sideways. Prior to the fall out, Moyes thought a lot about him. I think the best is yet to come for Jole in a skyblue shirt but how many opportunities he will get at CB ? Kompany is going to have to spontaneously combust for some one to capture his starting place in the team.

for me lescott/kompany is the best central defensive partnership we have

both good in the air, both good tacklers, both read the game well

my only criticism of lescott is that his distribution is dreadful - reminds me a little of dunney, lescott seems to panic too much when an attacker closes him down and just launches it 70 yards and gives posession away whereas VK at least looks for a player in blue and tries to make space for himself

i would leave toure out tomorrow

Big Vinnie and Joleon have done really well and rumours of Joleon going in jan have to be a joke. No I don't think he is better than Vinnie but better than Kolo in the air but when up against greyhounds I would go with Kolo. Nice to have the option. I have not seen enough of Boateng at CB to comment on him playing there but I wouldn't want to risk it if we don't have to.

I,d pick lescott ahead of toure. much, much better in the air.more commanding centre back.
vinny and lescott should be left to have a run in the team.

Joleon has played a few games this season and performed well when asked.

Vincent has played CONSTANTLY this season and has performed well, and has appeared WORLD CLASS at stages so far.

Vincent is a better defender in my opinion.
