Lescott today...

Great post Dax. Did you mean congestion in the middle? I feel like thats what you were getting at.

We have Savic who in maybe a season or two will be first choice. We can live without extra flair from the back, don't you think?

That's exactly where I was going.

Wow OP, you call Lescott out but forget who got sent off??????
Who was supposed to cover Miereles on the 1st goal?
Aguero missed how many good chances?
What did Clattenburg need to see-Silva on the ground with a hyperextended knee b/c he didn't try to get out of a challenge??? (no thx btw)

Lescott *alone* didn't cost us points today.

Still gives me the jitters when he has the ball, he doesn't have a clue what to do with it but overall he was pretty solid tonight.

I can't help but get nervous when Toure or Lescott have the ball. Call be stupid or whatever but I can't help the way i feel...

Could do with Jan Vertonghen IMO, him and Kompany would be a mean combo

I agree we could live without the extra flair out of the back. Seeing as we are top of the league without it. But just like Nigel has become less important the more offensive we have gotten, I believe Lescott/Kolo will go the same way. The same flaw from last year, where the ball went to Nigel, and you just knew it would find its way back to Hart for a punt, is occurring again. This time with Lescott. He is just reluctant to go outside of his comfort zone. And very often the opposition (having retreated to their half in fear of City's offensive firepower) allows CIty's CD's the space and time they need to move the ball up and find options.

On numerous (okay maybe "a few") occasions Lescott had the ball and acres of space to attack, but instead passed it sideways to Clichy who was n a worse position with a man bearing down on him. Vertoghen I saw at Ajax would have attacked that space, and forced someone to come out of their congested zone to challenge him. Thus creating the space our guys need to maneuver.

i mean if I am a coach of an opposing team, having the ball go to Lescott will be advantage us. And I would instruct my players to funnel their defending towards Lescott being free to receive it.

Truth be told,, this only affects us occasionally, but when it does, it sticks out like a sour thumb. You just see it. The ball goes to Lescott, and you know NO quick breaks or ball movement will come out of this. I think it is more glaring when Micah is not around to coz havoc on the right side. :(

Anyway, I am not very disappointed. And I figured we'd lose sometime. So away to Chelsea isn't bad. But we can't afford a tailspin like Chelsea's last year after we beat them. United is hanging around, waiting to pounce.

This is our year, and we need to take it with both hands.

Considering I used to call Lescott liability, it would be harsh to pin this one on him. Wasn't intentional handball and was struck at him from close range at high speed. I consider him hard done by. I also thought he played well last night - still too error prone though. Was at fault for Newcastle's goal and the Liverpool goal as well.

Who was supposed to cover Miereles on the 1st goal? Yaya. Disappointing when he does that sluggish "nothing will happen if I let him go" crap. I was royally pissed. And I am one of his biggest fans outside of Zangtang :)
Aguero missed how many good chances? 2! But they were both tough. And he did make that excellent pass to Balo for his. I like him, but that his is game. He makes mistakes and magic all at once.
What did Clattenburg need to see-Silva on the ground with a hyperextended knee b/c he didn't try to get out of a challenge??? (no thx btw) That ref is a royal twat. But we need to learn to beat teams and the ref. We can't hope he is fair. Assume he wouldn't be, and go out and beat the 12 men. That is what Champions do. Well outside of the Rags :P

The above is absolutely correct. Nor did he cost us points against Pool. He blocked a shot. Unfortunately bounced it into our goal. That is not being poor, just unlucky.
