Lesser known / Quirky records City hold

Playing on successive days was common back in the day. It was usual for teams to play Friday, Saturday and Monday over Easter (apart from the Midlands where it was Saturday, Monday and Tuesday). It was similar over Christmas.
One year, we played Argyle home and away - I can’t remember which way around - on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Did we win the toss?
I was at that game,my Dad took me as a 12 (almost 13) year old schoolboy. Sadly I didn't give a toss who won the toss up,I was more interested in the result at the end of the match.
I am sure somebody on BM could provide us with the info. Afterall there are a lot of experienced and knowledgeable tossers on this forum!!!

As of yesterday, we hold the most golden gloves by team. You can thank Joe Hart for 4 of them... what a goalkeeper he was.

Manchester City: 5
Chelsea: 4
Liverpool: 4
Arsenal: 2
United: 2
He had some great defenders in front of him too; Vinnie and Joleon, Zaba and Micah at right-back and AK and Gaël on the other side.

Remember reading about that.
The players of both clubs travelled to the 2nd game on the train together.

The year City won the League in 36/37 we played at Grimsby Xmas Day and home to Middlesbrough Boxing Day

Indeed. All clean sheets are kept by the XI men on the pitch at any one time (and how good or bad the opposition’s shooting is), not the goalkeeper.

Thanks - though the camera gave me a couple of extra chins.....

Yes entry was around some international trade fair but seems there were plenty of them around (Leeds beat Hibs, Rangers and Dundee United on their way to winning it!) And only one club per city could enter.

Newcastle won it in 1969 having qualified finishing in 10th place!
City as champioms and United as the holders qualified for the EC, Liverpool (3rd) and Leeds (4th) took the first 2 (of 4) Fairs Cup places. Everton (5th) couldn't because Liverpool had qualified so Chelsea in 6th took the 3rd spot meaning Spurs (7th) and Arsenal (9th) were ruled out. West Brom (8th) as FA Cup winners went into the ECWC so Newcastle in 10th place took the final Fairs Cup spot and went on to win it!

I see. Erm, really straightforward, then. Lol. As I thought, a bit of a naff competition.

Richard Dunne has most career own goals and equal most sendings off on in Premier League. (Some of these are for other teams, but some for City, so counts towards records?)

Not a very good record to hold (own goals) but nearly everybody (including myself) all love The Dunney Monster.
Always gave his best and was City through and through.

My 3 favourites are...
- The only team to get relegated 37/38 the season after winning the league.
- We were top scorers in the league the year we were relegated too with 80 goals.
- The only team to lose an FA cup final to a relegated team.
City in a nutshell.

Our team this season is the highest scoring team not to win the Premier League with102 goals and equals our record in 2013/14 and overtakes Liverpool the previous best with 101 goals in 2013/14.
We now occupy slots 4,3 and 1 in the list of top scoring Prenier League sides. Chelsea are 2nd with 103 Top is if course City with 106 in 2017/18.

1946-47 - Christmas Day: City 4 Plymouth 3; Boxing Day Plymouth 2 City 3

Other long trips were:
1935-36 v Chelsea. Christmas Day at Maine Rd; Boxing Day at Stamford Bridge
1930-31 v Arsenal (we lost both!)
1914-15 v Chelsea (away on Christmas Day)
1912-13 v Spurs
1908-09 v Chelsea

Surely there can't have been many teams who won on the first and last game of the season 5-0 like we just have?
That's a good one. It certainly sounds rare but I guess mathematically it could be worked out by someone the likelihood of it happening. I do know we have started and ended with the same result in the past - for example winning 3-1 at home in 1961-62 on both first and last days; also winning 2-1 on opening day and on the last day in 1923-24 (both against teams called United - Sheffield & West Ham) AND we've had the same score but in reverse like 1925-26 when we won 3-2 on opening day and lost 3-2 on last day.

We've conceded 4 goals on both the opening and closing day and both away - Blackburn (4-3 opening day) and Everton (4-0 on last day) in 1899-1900.

We also lost on the last day of the season by the score 3-2 in 3 successive seasons - 1904-5 to 1906-7.

And two days after the match at Plymouth we played Leicester at home - three games in four days including a round trip to Devon - and on public transport too. Try going to Plymouth and back on Xmas Day & Boxing Day by train nowadays!
And Jimmy Constantine scored in all three games.
