If you voted them then blame yourself.
First off we would have to get a constitution to amend.
What Patel is proposing here will I think put her in direct confrontation with the Judiciary. If Patel then uses executive power to override Judicial power we are in the realms of dictatorship. The checks and balances of the UK system will be gone.
Hypothetically if a Judge refused to impose a sanction on a Journalist for this "crime" and whilst I am no expert there is probably no precedent for it, Patel could step in and I would not put it past her at all because she is an authoritarian.
But as somebody posted quite glibly the other day, at least Patel has not laid wreaths at the graves of terrorists.
Its a good summation of our unusual situation.British Library

And you’ve already got a Bill of Rights! :-)
I despair at the lack of, well, anything coming from the Labour Party. That Starmer is fucking useless. I recall typing this almost word for word months ago and no thing's changed. A new and dynamic leader is needed ASAP or that void you mention may well be filled by something far worse than the current govt.
Maybe so,but two wrongs don’t make a right, these scumbags don’t care about their children I’ve seen it first hand it’s horrifying the way it’s going we will be back in Victorian times in the workhouses
Obviously the statement is abhorrent.
But putting that aside there is a conversation this country needs to have because people will continue to die from this disease. The only way people won’t die is if we continue with complete lockdowns, which the country cannot afford long term.
So given we have to acknowledge people will die, what is acceptable, how high can that pile be? It’s a truly horrible question and one I would not like to be in charge of making policy to answer.
Maybe we should shovel the £247 billion earmarked to renew Trident into funding further lockdowns .... just a thought. After all we could afford £486 billion of taxpayers cash to bail out the banks couldn't we?
Never said it wasn’tJust a gentle reminder that it was the Labour party that introduced legislation to stop children being forced to work
If we lived in a society that wouldn't want to use children as labour we wouldn't have needed it but here we are
Because ...... Conservatives.
And because their parents are either negligent , drug addicts or alcoholics we should let the kids go hungry?
How very Tory.
These are precisely the kids we should be providing support for.
Agreed... but some parents cant even look after themselves let alone their kids. We don't have any support systems in place and social services have been cut to the bone.
To let the kids go hungry (its not their fault) is not the solution to getting the parents to sort out their lives. (and if you knew any alcoholics / drug addicts you'll know many of them are a lost cause without professional help)
