Or, very likely, both.Or it could be the actions of a broken, beaten man.

Personally think he’s knows he’s dropped a bollock so decided to avoid showing up.I think many are underestimating how big of a slight (and signal) Richard Masters choosing to attend the Arsenal match rather than ours actually was.
Was it particularly surprising? Not really.
But was it a fairly substantial indication of where things stand with him and the league re: the charges at this time? Absolutely.
And was it meant as a direct signal to those outside of the league and City’s battle? Yes, it was.
This was meant to send many messages to many entities, none of them positive for us.
In some ways, it was an escalation of the war.
And, whether or not he leaves in the summer, I think this was only one of many more aggressive volleys the club will be fielding soon.
There is a growing effort to not only isolate but completely discredit City as both a club and a business by the ever-expanding American ownership contingent within the league, spearheaded by the Arsenal and Liverpool ownership groups. It is becoming the dominant force within the league.
Masters being one of the first PL CEOs to essentially refuse to present the league winners with the trophy is just one of many more signals to come.
This was the PL's showpiece finale and it's ridiculous Masters wasn't there. But PR is everything and I'm sure they thought he might get a bit of flak had he turned up so he went to Arsenal instead. He wasn't a big miss, and I don't believe there's anything more to it than a marketing company saying "might be best if you sit this one out". Remember there are plenty of people looking for a story that isn't there. Masters handing a medal to Pep and having a little smile and maybe a wink as well - that would see the twitter lawyers going into overdrive.
The PL don't want their showpiece having any other sub plots to the watching world. And his appearance would have undoubtedly led to sky and the other broadcasters making a comment about the charges - and his role in the investigation - more so than they did anyway.
Alison Brittain was far better in any case. You could see genuine warmth and positivity in the way she greeted players so it was a positive substitution.
I think these are very… generous interpretations.Personally think he’s knows he’s dropped a bollock so decided to avoid showing up.
I am a big softie ;)I think these are very… generous interpretations.

I don’t think much of Masters as an executive, but he isn’t the only person involved, and if you think the decision not to attend our match and present the medals/trophy to the likely champions was completely down to him, I think you are misreading the current dynamics, both related to the charges and the direction of the league more broadly. This is a guy who went to the Commons and told everyone there was a date but then couldn't say when it was.
If you think his no show is for anything more than him wanting to avoid us you give him far too much credit.
It could be as simple as a thread on bluemoon saying boo the fucker for his PR team to say, best go elsewhere Dicky.
