Leverkusen (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

Just another thought.. If Stones was the captain what the fuck was he doing. Can you imagine Kompany being on the pitch and putting up with that
I saw plenty of screaming from him. Played some great passes but let’s be honest everyone in front of him let him down.

Then you have Trafford charge out when Stones has it under control.

Tough night for him, we live and we learn. No one will be happy with that, in fact that’s a proper embarrassing one.

We will bounce back.

Easy to criticise when we lose, however I thought this was champions league not Carabao Cup, that’s where you would expect 10 changes.

Either a message or complete arrogance. More than later I think as Pep always says we focus on one game at a time, and clearly we didn’t.

Too many passengers, Lewis, Bob, Khusanov, Savinho and Reinders.

I would like to see RAN given a go at right back.

Anyway, we still are in it.

Move on to Sat where hopefully we stick 5 past Leeds with no fuxking about!
RAN at right back?

Why?

How the fuck Savinho had the audacity to wave his hands to the crowd in the 80th minute asking more from them after his performance I will never know ,deluded ****.
He wasnt any worse that most tonight but its how far we have fallen that he gets so many games despite offering fuck all with his end product. Sums up everything thats wrong with our transfers over the last 2 windows. Compare him to the younger player Chelsea have who was great tonight v Barcelona.

Well I’m definitely not doing the CL next season fucking freezing and won’t get in until 1130pm for that shit. Loads of tourists round us, someone reckons they were PSV fans. Take the tourists out the equation and the stadium will be half empty going forward that new stand is going to look empty on CL nights. Cost if living and game prices are coming to ahead now.
Agreed. Full of weird fuckers paying forty, fifty quid to sit and stare at their phones all game tonight.

just noticed on the BBC news there when they showed the goals that Pep gave the ref an angry glare while shaking his hand at full time.

To be fair the ref gave us nothing. Did he give us a free all night?

Ref done fine. Our players were falling about holding their ankles under the slightest pressure rather than manning up and battling to win the game at hand. Ait Nouri, Bobb, Savinho, Lewis, Marmoush and Reijnders all guilty of it. Soft as shite.

The truth is we look like we have a bigger squad, but a lot of those players can only play if 85% of the first team are playing.
Let’s not forget, the “good” players play well, and better, when they’re surrounded by good players. Tonight, second tier players were surrounded by second tier players and it showed.

Pep got what Pep deserved!

Does a goalkeeper need resting?? Seriously?!

Remember when players coming off a bad result needed to get straight back out there to redeem themselves? Well, now THE WHOLE FUCKING SQUAD needs that redemption, and where’s that going to come from?!

We were sitting pretty in the CL. The gig is win at home and try not to lose away. We were rolling…2 wins at home, 1 win and 1 draw away. Get another win at home, go to Madrid sitting pretty in the Top 8, and a potential loss isn’t the end of the world!

Now???

10 points from 5 games SOUNDS decent, but it could very easily be 10 points from 6, which will see us plummet down to mid-table and looking at facing another good club in the Play Offs!

This was a chance to make TWO statements…

1) We can bounce back from the tough defeat at Newcastle, and

2) We are ready to compete in the CL this season!

Instead, we have made the Leeds game a “must win” otherwise we are in the Slot-like crisis!!

I have NO FUCKING IDEA what Pep was thinking, and there’s literally nothing he can say to make me think THAT was the correct team selection for tonight’s game.

This was a game to rest a couple or three, perhaps even four or five players, but not the entire team. Give Khus & RAN a run out at FB. Maybe slide Stones into midfield to relieve Nico (who is being flogged to death in Rodri’s absence) and put someone (Reijnders or Lewis or Bernardo) alongside him and in front of the back three? Maybe give Bobb a run out instead of Savinho, but the answer to any of these questions isn’t “Fuck it! Let’s give them ALL a rest…except our DM, whom we will strip naked in the middle of the park with no help!”

The patently obvious answer was play an almost full strength team, push to get a lead, then sub off those players not playing well or those the Sports Scientists say need some rest.

Again, Pep got what he deserved, and the players and fans are the ones made to suffer. And, before anyone trots out his history and record of achievements, “Yes, I know!” BUT we ALL also know he sometimes gets a wild hare and OVERTHINKS HIMSELF, esp in the CL!

Too “smart” for his own good tonight when you look at the performance, the score, and the talent sitting on the bench!

UGH!

Just looking at tomorrow night's fixtures, and the teams that are on 8 or 9 points. I think it's reasonable to conclude we're out of top eight by the end of the evening. At least temporarily.
Then we've got Real, at their place, to get back in.
Win the last two and we should be fine for the top 8. But we wasted our margin tonight with that sh&t.

Savinho and Bobb just aren't good enough right now. And we aren't good enough to live through their growing pains -- if they do improve. And what happened to Reinjders? Utterly invsible. We need someone to be atheltic and strong in the midfield. He's supposed to be it, but .....

I felt better about City this season between the Manchester derby and the Newcastle game because it felt like Pep was learning that we don't need to dominate the ball, and that we actually have dangerous weapons for a team that hits hard on transitions and takes advantage of teams over-committing. But we've just gone back to "his way" and thrown away all the good vibes and momentum of the autumn period.

That was unfathomably horrendous tonight. One of the worst games of football I've ever watched, to the point where I feel like it barely happened. I don't feel like I've lived through a football game - when the full-time whistle blew I was still expecting the proper game to start. Pep fucked it right up. That was an awful team selection - it honestly felt like a protest - that left us chasing the game and has killed the confidence of so many players.

You could feel it in the stadium. The people who'd paid lots of money to go, who'd battled really bad traffic on the M60, and braved freezing temperatures, saw that team and thought "Well Pep clearly doesn't give a shit". It was an insult to Leverkusen and they rightly treated that City XI with all the respect it deserved: none. This will have ramifications weeks and potentially months down the line. What the fuck was he thinking?

Trafford - A child, has barely played in weeks
Khusanov - A child, has barely played in weeks
Stones - Has barely played in weeks
Ake - Has barely played in weeks and has mentally checked out
Ait-Nouri - Has barely played in weeks and still isn't fully fit
Gonzalez - Poor bloke
Reijnders - Was ticking along nicely but his confidence is shot
Lewis - A child, has barely played in weeks
Savinho - A child, also just dismal to watch though
Marmoush - Has barely played in weeks
Bobb - A child, also just dismal to watch though

Just a disaster from start to finish. As soon as I saw the XI all the excitement I had for the game just leaked out of me. Far too many changes. Now we've got to go to the Bernabeau and win, and after that we've got to go to Norway in January and win. We could have started a strong team, won tonight, and still beaten Leeds with a few changes on Saturday. And then we could have gone to the Bernabeau knowing a point is fine. Instead we have this timeline.

I've lost patience with Pep tonight. I was willing to give him patience and time after last season. He's earned it. But this season he's complained about good results in tough games (Arsenal away in particular) because we've not played his way, he's persisted with Bobb and Savinho for some fucking reason, and now he's started sniping at referees and being sarcastic to officials after we lose (something he's never done before). Think his time is up.

Because he is symptomatic of the drop off in quality and the acceptance from fans like you that he now represents our best hope…….. at right back.
You're putting words in my mouth, through targeting a player who didn't play and has played well this season. Odd behaviour, but you do you, pal.
