Liam Delap - Ipswich player 2024-25

I'd love to see him on the bench in the PL this season when we have a strong 1st time on the pitch. Doubt it'd happen though.

Build up play is getting better as well. Will be happy as long as he improves.

A season in the championship side a side who play football on the deck a team who going for promotion and a team who will play him regularly.

I've gotten a sense over the past for seasons that we don't really loan out players who we think could make the grade. We seem to hold onto the players with potential so they can learn from our senior players and get better coaching.

The players who go out on loan seem to be ones that we hope will make a reasonable impression so they can be flipped for a few million rather than there being any real expectation they will return and be knocking on the door of our first team.

Only saw the highlights and thought our play was impressive.

Hopefully our coaches have had words with Delap (and others ) about behaviour on the pitch , for the good of their game. Losing their temper through frustration is a natural reaction but players are going to be wound up by opposition players if there is an obvious flaw.

Not sure how he managed to sqeeze his second into the net though , so well done to him for that.

Not sure why but Delap reminded me of Robbie Fowler in those 6-1 highlights. I'm probably way off but there was something in the strong striking and cheeky layoffs that seemed Fowlerish.

14 goals and 4 assists in 12 games for the EDS this season

That first goal is very tasty.
I’m keen to see him get more first team starts at some point this season, up against seasoned PL centre backs. Hopefully if this league form continues he’ll get plenty of game time in the last month of the season at the very least.

I would love to see him get a chance off the bench in the league but would also like to see some of the other EDS lads get some minutes. McAtee and Palmer look great but maybe Delap is currently more physically equipped for senior football.
Maybe the Premier League should introduce two extra sub spaces for EDS players with less than say 20 appearances?

I could see the club giving him another season in the U21s, but next year he really needs a new challenge.

Numbers-wise, Delap, Palmer and McAtee are making U21 football a joke to them as Sancho, Foden and Diaz did.

They are just a year older than those 3 when they did it (16-17 vs 17-18).

What I'd do personally (not saying Pep or the club should do this), is promote all 3 next season (maybe include Doyle here) and utilize them as super subs.

As starters, I think they'd struggle to handle our high energy game for 90s mins, but they should be able to do it for 45 mins, and against tired legs, that should be a good setting for them to build confidence from.

It's fun to think about this stuff.

Another 2 goals from him tonight. I’m Norwegian and have watched Haaland since he was 17, but he wasn’t as good as Delap is right now at the same age

Does Delap have the acceleration Haaland has?...I’d be amazed if he gets to Haaland level within the next 2/3 years.

He is clearly too good for junior football. He either needs to be fast tracked like Foden or given a loan
I think you are right, worth remembering that he generally is only playing against other players the same age. The gap between youth / reserve football is bigger than it has ever been. A loan where he is playing against seasoned pros will bring him on far quicker than playing kids once a week.

Yeah I'm not against a loan for him. He's far closer to being physically ready than a lot of City academy players have been in that age group so it likely wouldn't harm him to try his luck against grown ups. Plus going on loan will hopefully force him to watch that wild streak he has.

The only valid reason I could see against it is if like Foden, Pep wants him kept at close quarters under his tutelage. In which case he should stay in my opinion.

Yeah I wouldn’t loan him. Bring him up permanently and see what happens over time. Training with our first team is a much greater opening for ultimate potential than going somewhere and playing with lesser caliber. If it doesn’t pan out, then loan and sell. Not like we’re drowning in strikers anyway

Bring him up to 1st team please.why should he be loaned while he can train under best manager in the world and arguably best time as well, and we may save a bloody 100m£.
