Liam Delap - Ipswich player 2024-25

He needs a loan move as he’s too good for youth football.

my concern would be that if he goes on loan and plays well there is no way he will want to come back to us and sit on the bench. He’s not a city fan and hasn’t come through the academy.

I’d bring him into the first team squad and bring him off the bench/ start in cup games. Would be a great option with Haaland ... we need to stop with comparisons to foden and how he came through

Stats for the academy this season:
16 appearances
21 goals
5 assists

Goal contribution every 52 mins

Given the legend of his father at stoke and the physcial nature of their play lately i think stoke is what he needs for his loan.

A team playing tippy tappy stuff is what he is ALREADY used to. He needs a club playing more direct attacking play imo.

Let's prepare him to play for City by sending him to a club that play nothing like City. Genius.

Perhaps we should send Phil on loan to Burnley too, before it's too late for him to learn proppa football instead of tippy tappy stuff.

You can only hope that he gets the right loan and manager because this lad has potential in bucket loads , he looks like a U-18 player playing against an U-14's team , he is mentally and physically way ahead of his contemporaries , by all accounts he needs to control his aggression but a hungry player with a bit of devilmentis no bad thing.
Hope he gets the chance to develop similar to Foden and Doyle.

Wow pretty hostile. I just mean he's at an age where he needs to learn the tough side of things. Especially being a young striker.

I'd have thought that was obvious.

Sorry it's just such an ignorant and out of touch thing to say. To anyone has ever watched him play, it's blindingly obvious he doesn't need to learn the tough side of things, he is already completely bulldozing CB's, getting stuck in physically and if anything taking it too far, whether it's against u21s or in his first team appearances.

Anyone who's followed City's youth development over the last 5 years knows they aren't interested in teaching kids how to play kick and rush football in league 1. The only thing that matters is being able to play City's style of football and convincing Pep you can play that style of football at the level required, so to that end the closest to City's style a loan destination is the better.

He's not going to learn anything at Stoke that helps him get in the City side.

If Brighton stay up they would be a good choice to loan him to and if they don’t improve their striders he will also get plenty of game time

I, respectfully, disagree entirely. But you are too much like hard work for a friday evening.

Fortunately the list of clubs Delap has been linked with as loan destinations show the club has no intention of sending him somewhere they play shit football.

I'd much rather he stayed here, and learn like Foden did. Many wanted Foden out on loan, so glad they were wrong, and he's been produced into the player he is, by City.

That would be the ideal with all our youngsters but, while he is a talent,i dont thnk he is a Foden level type.He has entered that middle ground where he is too good for our EDS but still some way off regular first team minutes.

I suspect his ambition will soon turn sour if he doesn't get such,so i think a loan is ideal in Liams situation.

It's a shame that he is not a couple of years older as, if he was a little more mature, I think he could have got quite a few sub appearances for the first team. Hopefully we can wrap the league up with a few games to spare and Delap can get some minutes with the first team. We will not be chasing any records so it would be great to see some of the youngsters who have been tearing it up in the EDS given a shot - the main problem we have is that there are too many good youngsters - not all will get the shot that they probably deserve.

His Dad will have a big say how his career moves forward.
