Liam Delap signs new contract until 2026

Great news that he's now been anointed official successor to Kane as the best young striker in the country by the blessed Murphy on MOTD2, good job we've got a cheap buyback option to bring him home in January.
Danny Murphy seems to really have it in for City, with snide remarks.
Didn't see MOTD2 tonight, but he isn't clever enough to mask his bias for Liverpool, Spurs and Fulham - all his former clubs...

City would buy him back even if they ended up selling him. Easy money.
Why would Delap come back though? He’s making a name for himself, playing regularly, developing. Everything he needs at this stage. We can trigger the buy back price all we want, I think Delap would be crazy to return. And it’s up to him at the end of the day.

He needs to stay at Ipswich and develop. All he needed was consistent game time, which we can’t provide most of our young players. They have to pretty much be ready made instantly, which 99% of youngsters aren’t.

I’m starting to think we’ve made a mistake getting rid of some of these youngsters who have gone on to become top players/ prospects and would have improved our squad

It’s not a mistake, you have to be the amongst the best in the world to play for City it can be a necessary step but we insure ourselves with buy backs. Surprisingly we never did this with Palmer but I’m worried that the player I felt was the jewel in the crown Mcatee isn’t playing.

I’m not sure about that. Young players just need solid game time. McAtee should be getting at least 30 minutes every game at the minute. Palmer should have got the chance to play in his favoured position before he left. Not every player needs to be the best on the pitch for City. I suppose Pep knows best but we certainly could do with some of the young lads thriving at other clubs.

There aren’t many 18 year olds/ young players who are the best in the world. That’s almost an impossible standard to meet. Foden at 18 wasn’t at that level. Young players need time to develop, otherwise it becomes impossible to show how good they are.

As soon as someone goes on loan or as a buy back they don’t play for us again.

I’d also argue weve been signing players recently who aren’t the best in the world. Nunes and Doku for example.

Even with defeats and so many players injured, we're still not seeing McAtee, so Delap would be stupid to return.
He'd also be looking at Bobb's imminent return and Pep clearly rates him higher than the other Academy prospects
