Liam Delap

We play enough high profile games to satisfy most players. Aside from Rodri, Haaland, KDB & Ederson, the rest of the squad have shared the big games between them, with no issues to my knowledge. It's a squad game nowadays.
So a few positions it’s almost not a squad game for the biggest games (striker especially), hence why Alvarez left. Champions league final, cup final, Madrid and plenty of others it’s only Haaland that starts in 99% of them when fit.

Delap would have to be willing to be on the bench quite a bit

It evidently comes down to who forms our strongest team. Yes, certain players will always be involved in that argument, but opportunities will also arise because of injuries, suspensions & loss of form.

I'd rather play 40+ games for City & accept if the squad is fit & everyone's available, I'd be first reserve on the bench for a major final, than be guaranteed a starting slot for a team battling relegation, or a mid-table team whose perennial ambition is to secure PL football for another season.

Others may prioritise playing every game, but that's just the rich tapestry of life. We all have a choice & for better or worse, Alvarez chose the option which best suited him.

Other City greats bided their time & eventually became that first choice, like Stones, Gundog, Foden etc...

Just saw the piece on the BBC saying Delaps release clause is down to 30m with Ipswich’s relegation. Seems to suggest it trumps the buy-back we had. So looks like just the 20% sell on coming our way now which is only £2m on a £30m sale!

Said this ever since united signed Sancho, when we sell these youngsters we need to include a heavy clause that protects us against one of the big six coming in for them. A buy back and 20% sell on clause is fine but make sure that clause goes to say 50% if sold to united, Dippers or arsenal. Bumps up their cost for the club they go to so they dont even lose out themselves and gives us more if a rival comes in.

He isn't coming back here but £30m seems cheap for an English striker in that age bracket. United paid £70+m for Hojlund who had done less than Delap. Hope he goes to Chelsea. Probably the best fit for him and the most stomachable, would hate to see him at united or arsenal or even dippers

It not only for us it's that..

Thats’s not for us to worry about - we need a backup 9
Marmoush was bought in to be like Alvarez but more effective in midfield.

I can’t see us going after a 9, especially with false 9 options as well.

If we are buying back Delap it will be like Angelino and flipping for money with incentives again if we want to bring him back. I just can’t see it.
