Yes. This is true for most players. Very few are guaranteed to be a success. Those are usually a lot more expensive. But that doesn't change the fact that said top 4 club will have evaluated him and bought him for a reason. Clubs monitor other clubs players down to youth level. In Liam Delaps case they now have about 19 games in the Premier League to judge him on where he has also delivered in terms of numbers

A huge step to expect him to really thrive at a top club. Chelsea need more of an Isak or even a Haaland than a Delap and that is not a slight on the latter's ability. Even a return to City wouldn't be the wisest of career choices either.

Are you Alan Carr's dad? It's possible you might be wrong and not be as clued up as a scouting and technical team that have built a young promising team and also inflated the values of all academy players they sell on?

That is fine, and I am not saying that any young player isn't a risk. But the point is that it is well and good saying they need an Isak or a Haaland but those player might not be available for them. They then have to invest in who they decide can reach those levels.
That doesn't mean it will work. United has spent a fortune on their team but still has a young Dane that are currently looking awful for them starting every match as a number 9, with only a handfull of goals in the Serie A to go by in terms of what he has proven before they signed. Because they can't get their hands on anyone else. Liverpool have an 80 million pound striker on the bench from Benfica. Players are so much more expensive now that you either get the one great opportunity to sign someone world-class, like we did with Haaland or Bayern did with Kane. Or you go full PSG and spend a boatload on Neymar or Mbappe. Or you have to spend slighly less on someone you think you can build to be what you need

Delap for all his efforts this season will still struggle at a bigger club at the minute. He could have Kane or Palmer style rise in his career where he does hit 20 goals a season but that still takes a huge slice of fortune for that to really happen. It is a huge step from being in a relegation scrap to becoming their main man.
