Lidl / Aldi

Tesco are currently running a free 1 month trial on their Tesco Clubcard plus. Its a 1 month rolling contract.

You're allowed 2 shops during the month with a full 10% off per shop. The limit is £40 back a month, so to get this would require a 2 x £200 spend which is easily acomplished in a cost of living crisis. Combine this with all their Aldi price matches and whats not to like. Aldi 5% lean mince 500 gram at £2.89 or a price match on their lean chicken breast or why not treat yourself to a nice loaf of Tesco seeded brown at a £1 with 100's more price matches throughout store.

At the end of the month if you dont think your saving against Lidl or Aldi then simply cancel the clubcard plus and migrate back. A £40 discount on £400 spend aint to be sniffed at when combined with the clubcard points on food and fuel, the 10% off F and F clothing brands and the double data on sim phone contracts. The piece du resistance is the nicer shopping ambience and when you arrive at the till you dont have your shop skimmed at you. Every Little Helps.

I may or may not return to Aldi and will have to see how it all pans out. Just sick to death of all their naff like for likes that are currently doing the rounds mentioned @post 139. I am also not arguing that a lot of their produce is sound but lots and lots are not.

Tesco are screwing their suppliers again then!
Somebody pays for this and it isn’t Tesco

They all piss in the same pot Dickie. We live in price conscious times and in an ideal world producers would be paid a fair price for their produce, but sadly this isnt the case. Same with all our empoyees that have to graft for minimum wage whilst they struggle to keep their head above water. Businesses have to make a profit and currently compete in an unfair playing field in order to bring the consumer the best produce at the lowest possible prices. What would you have them do?

Slightly off tangent and maybe more suited to macroeconomics?

There is profit and then there is profit 2Bn pre tax profit for Tesco last April great for shareholders and pension schemes but no good at all to suppliers and shoppers. By the way I love Aldi and have no doubt they are upto the same tricks but they don’t insist on you having a club card to garner discounts on food items.

Give them time with the card mate because Lidll are already bang at it and they'll probably follow suit. Regarding margins Aldis profit in 2020 was over a quarter of a billion which considering size and market share aint no mean feat.

I've worked in the food industry and know that Tesco are the grocery mafia. They are far too powerful and because of the power they hold they really screw the food manufacturers, which in turn fucks the farmers
On the manufacturing side, Nestle are equally as bad

You couldn’t pay me to shop at Tesco.
Awful store, awful experience.
My Waitrose card gets me a weekly choice of discounts plus me and the Mrs both received this week a pack of £8 off a£40 spend vouchers. So 20% off every spend we make until the middle of February effectively. More than makes up for the premium paid over Aldi prices.
Staples are bought at Aldi.

what I don't like about Tesco is all the signage the look of the place and its "offer" has been unchanged for over 20 years - they have failed to adapt. Near me we have an Aldi that is about 5-6 years old and has already been revamped int6ernally - Lidl at Whitby decided that they needed more space and new look so they knocked the fucker down before Xmas and a reopening with a new look soon. Tesco - oh look the same red and white signs..... boring
