Lidl / Aldi

Holly Lane cakes with the worst being their apple pies that hold little in the way of an apple etc etc etc.
I’m definitely with you on that one, I ended up getting a jar of apple sauce out so it actually tasted like an apple pie and not just pastry where a piece of apple and goo had accidentally got in there.
Even worse though are those jam roly polys where you have to add extra jam, shocking.

Of the 2 Lidl cannot be moaned about
Bakery is top notch better than tescos, morrisons and asda
Each store is pretty much set out the same so easy to navigate (find Aldi is organised chaos with each one visited)
Their commisioned branded products are usually on a par with big brands but they also have a fair range of big brands.
Weekly themed product ranges add variety to my shop and throws up some beers and food I wouldn't normally have available
Range of ale and wines is decent and their in store beers good
The Lidl card is a welcome addition unlike tesco clubcard con

Aldi I find has decent beer and the middle isle household selection is better (gardening and diy etc) that's about it, otgerwise if I had a choice I would choose Lidl.

Asda, tesco, sainsburys never get a visit anymore

But how much "fish" do you expect supermarket battered fish to contain?
Supermarket/ready meals are designed for convenience as well as low cost. Oven on, in a tray or pop & ping.
I only buy supermarket battered fish if I want a quick/easy meal - if I want a good fish meal I buy fish.
Takes an extra 10 minutes and some washing up.
Three step process, first coat in cornflour then beaten egg, then panko breadcrumbs. Shallow fry few minutes each side, delicious.
To be fair I would like 100% as the packet infers. I understand the conveniance aspect but many branded lables such as Findus and Birds Eye are made with 100% frozen Cod Fillet with no nasty suprises to the end user.

If products wish to compete on a like for like basis then please put the 48% Cod you just pinched from our homecoming supper back into the packet eh.

Designed to deceive the end users and no need for smoke and mirrors if you want to retain market share. I maintain that a lot of Aldi Lidl products are inferior to their branded couterparts and it didnt use to be this way. The suppliers must be under immense pressure as the discount retailers demand lower and lower prices.

Here is the packet I have just dug out of the bin. Four breaded Cod Fillets. 100% Fillet.

Contains 52% Cod

And 48% basa more likley

Still 100% fillet

The the 52% cod is from the fillet only not the head, loin or tail

Either way the box is not lying to you

I do like these places but the checkouts stress me the fuck out. I can’t be dealing with having my shopping hurled at me by someone who is obviously a baseball pitcher in their spare time.

I know it’s how they cut costs and keep prices low but I just can’t cope with it.

The Aldi ‘specially selected’ pizzas are top notch though. The ones in the freezer are actually better than the fresh ones. Shame they’re not bigger though.

Technically not, but they're going out of their way to mislead the end consumer by their wording or lack of it. The front of the packet says breaded Cod with 100% fillet with no mention of any other contents.

As a consumer I would not be concerned if it was Pollock or Basa as long as they describe the product honestly.

By the very abcence of the full descriptors on the front of the box they are deliberatly setting out to deceive. The implication is that it is 100% Cod fillet.

Things like smooties make me feel that way

Banana smoothie and when you look it is 49% apple juice
