Ubuntu was a bit of a pain in the arse for me as I struggled to get my wireless chip to connect to my router, along with numerous other hardware issues. I've used mint before, and I didn't have any major problems with it. I'll give LMDE a whirl when I get the opportunity.Oh I use LMDE..
So I get to use Debian with a Linux Mint distro and Cinnamon desktop. I haven't had the troubles of either Ubuntu commercialization or Debian barebones.
