maybe, just maybe , messi may look at our calibre of signings this summer and fancy some of it.....nobody can definately say this may not be his thinking.......optimism ain,t a bad thing......he,s already a CL winner..............

Though I see your point, I can't see him getting giddy about no Champions League football, (well no European football at all actually). I can't see he'll be in his Villa in Barca right now pondering on playing with Richard Dunne who, whether you like it or not, is going to be part of the team. I can't see playing with Shay Given is high on his agenda compared to Valdes. I can't see he is serious about swapping Eric Abidal for Wayne Bridge or sacrificing his passes from Xavi for Irelands. The one I will give you is he must be wondering what the fuck Ibrahimovic is all about!! Saying that though he still has Terry Henry and Krcic to think about. I know what you're saying, but its way, way too soon just yet.

must agree to disagree....every player has their own motivations......and as yet nobody seems to know messi,s....until then my optimism will not be crushed.......

Fair play mate. I forgot to add Iniesta to that list though. My point is we are definitely on the way, without a shadow of doubt as I also believe the players we have are that league just below some of Barca's, compared to ten leagues ago as it was even under Svennis. Maybe one day he will do and I will gladly say I was wrong. Here's to Saturday.

His buy out is £150m the figure mentioned so Barca have no option but to let us talk to the player should this rumour be true in any way. However, convincing Messi is a different matter, as much as I love my club I would not sign for us yet if I was as good as he is. We dont offer a good enough challenge yet and as mentioned no european footy this term. Would love it though if he did come but... Messi! Wow that would be amazing.

Id sign for 50 pence,,and you can have 49 pence change

Not. A. Chance.

There are a few elite players in the world who only want to play for the very best and biggest clubs over history (AC Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona) and for the passion of the game- not for money (clubs like Chelsea, City). Kaka is one of them, Iniesta is another. Messi is certainly one of them.

The Messi I see would never even think of City as an option I'm afraid.

Yes, City have made some great signings but they are definitely not of the same calibre as Messi. Adebayor, Tevez and Robinho are amonst some of the Premier League's best players but they are not the best. Messi is in a different class to any player in the Premier League.

According to Marca, cash-rich Manchester City have not given up on signing Lionel Messi and are interested in capturing him at all costs.

The Argentina international is currently in talks with Barcelona over a new contract and City have used that situation to renew their interest in the gifted footballer.

It is believed the Premier League club have approached Messi's agent to let the player know of their interest, having handed the 22-year-old a blank cheque, in effect asking him to name his price.

This is not the first time that City have expressed an interest in Messi. In the winter transfer window, they were ready to pay his release clause, set at €150 million, and offer him €12 million per season after tax.

Messi rejected the approach and it is understood City's new attempt will receive a similarly short shrift as he is happy at the Camp Nou and wants to stay in a team that can challenge on all fronts.

As ridiculous as this seems I would go absolutely nuts if we managed to pull this off.I just hope the press don`t devote 3 weeks to slating us for allegedly trying to buy yet another of the worlds best players.

Lets just entertain the thought for one moment that we have actually approached him and he is willing to sign. where the fuck is he going to play and where does that leave whoever he ousts out of the squad?

Would love him to come, but just a quick question,
If City offered 150million which Barca would have to then let us talk to the player, do we have to be serious about it? Our owners could easily hand out 150million if need-be, but could we not just offer the 150million, knowing without speaking to Messi, he wouldn't consider coming, but if we offered the 150million thinking that he won't come, but at least it allows us to speak to the player and maybe convince him or make some sort of pre-agreement ie, If we get in Champions League next year, we'll pay your release clause and say, give you £250k a week, will you join? I mean, if we get to speak to the player as Barca can't refuse the 150million, then maybe we can persaude him or agree a deal?

As much as I love Messi, and he is my favorite player by a longshot, this isn't gonna happen. If it did it would be amazing, but seriously, not gonna happen.

Gonna go get in bed and imagine it happening for a bit though!

why are we playing them next week? i mean why barca? why not any other team............the plot thickens

Because we've been invited by Barca to play them in their final pre season friendly at the Camp Nou before the La Liga season starts.

We could never get Messi, no-one could! Hes been at Barca since he was 12 and I'd be suprised if he doesn't end his career at the club he loves.

To the little people who think we looked stupid trying to sign kaka, go and fuck yourselfs. id rather city were bidding for messi kaka etc than fooking uni**d or any other club you dicks....

Never in my life have I been more certain that a transfer rumour is bollocks. Marca have got this from The Sun, who've had two stories about City retracted recently, on top of the usual bullshit they spout. Marca also want to cause unrest at Barca as they're the Madrid newspaper.

I hope that we can finish top 4 this season and go for Aguero next summer. Messi will play for Barca for the rest of his career.

lol mate, my comments were merely adding some messi quotes to the melting pot! I don't believe we are looking to sign messi just yet but in a couple of years time, if we are successful and messi did indeed fancy a crack in the prem we would be the only club who could lure him imo.
