As much as I love Messi, and he is my favorite player by a longshot, this isn't gonna happen. If it did it would be amazing, but seriously, not gonna happen.

I dont want to piss on anyones chips but.... As much as i want this to happen it isn't going to.

Yeah I can't see us getting Messi - even if we offered Barca £150m for him I just don't see him leaving... the guy has the club in his heart.

Still it's nice to dream eh? And there's always fifa 09...

Im not ITK but im ITK enough to tell you there is no fuckin chance what so ever of us ever signing messi, even if we offered 500 mil

I'm realistic enough to realise that Messi would never join the club I support. We can offer an awful lot of money and realistic hope for success and silverware both domestic and European fronts, however Chelsea is not Barcelona by a long stretch. If Messi will ever leave Barca it will be to a 'romantic', huge club with history and prospects to win silverware. With all due respect Manchester City, like Chelsea are not those clubs. The only thing the rich clubs can offer Messi that he doesn't have already is money and I don't think he is the kind of player who chases money.

Deadline day might yet still have a "big suprise", but of what quantity I do not know.

is it just me or did we not get linked with a move back in may and messi said he doesn't want to leave, its probbably just a build up story to the friendly next week

It's my 1st post (although I've been a lurker for some time) so feel free to kick me in the nads and call me a RAG :)

If this story has any legs (and the spanish press may or may not be right) then you can bet you life that ADUG have thought about this and know that there must be an angle they can work on Messi other than cash.

When dealing with the worlds top players it isn't about the money (although it helps), you have to be able to offer something that would appeal to the player themselves...

We all know the Messi story - an Argentinian kid with a growth problem that barca took a gamble on and paid for his medical treatment - now Messi says he is forever in their debt.

*BUT*

What if ADUG worked the charity angle? What if they offered Messi not only mega wages but the "Lionel Messi South American Vertically Challenged Foundation" or soemthing similar?

There were rumours of City offering JT something similar (an academy or charity named after him) so maybe this would turn Messi's head?????

I would think that ADUG are not stupid enough to think that money would lure Messi but if the story is true and they are looking to talk to the player then they must have something that they think would appeal to him?
