Barto wants to sell, he has wanted to sell Messi for two years. What he's doing right now is positioning for the highest fee he can get. If people had a better understanding of the politics in Barcelona and their financial position they'd be less likely to jump every time Barto briefed a journalist.
Seems there are many on here looking for any hurdle they can find as to why this deal may fall through, rather than the positives that appear. I suspect for many it is a coping mechanism to protect against Cityitis.

we will only know once his father goes and meets Barça, any other assessment from some lawyer is irrelevant, if he wants out he will go

That 15% of club debt written off won't work itself unless Bartomeu squeezes every bit of money from the club buying, he is shitting himself at the idea of Messi leaving on a free which he very well could do

TBF, I read half the posts on here and think the same thing ;)

I think a lot of people are struggling with the idea that we know what we're doing. The club know exactly what they're doing. Messi isn't going to suddenly sign a new deal or turn around and say "actually I don't want to leave". Remember, he picked up the phone to us, not the other way round. He's the one desperate to get to Manchester. City's plans were in place for this window, and they will continue as such. Messi will be a bonus of his own making for MCFC if it happens.

This is what makes me optimistic the deal will happen. For Messi to have reached out to City and asked Barca to leave, those are big steps he's taken. He isn't going to ruin his relationship with Pep by making false promises and Pep no doubt will have asked him how serious he is about leaving.

I haven't seen anything come out of Barca that indicates they're doing anything to try and make him reconsider, other than holding him to his contract, which just seems to make him want to leave even more!

Barca seem to be adamant he's not leaving, under any circumstances. I'm hoping this is just public game playing so they don't look like they've stood by and let the best player in the world walk away. If they refuse to let him go and keep him for another year, after he's asked to leave, that could backfire enormously for them and disrupt the whole team. More of a gamble for Barca than anyone else... If we don't sign him I'm sure our other business this summer won't be affected, but what a great bonus addition if we do get him!

you are right... I just read this brilliant in depth article about Bartomeu and holy fucken shit. Its really messy in there. I am more convinced now that this whole thing is a ploy to get a transfer fee for Messi and the 700m or fuck off release clause is just a starting point thatll end up around that 100-150m mark to wipe Barcas debts.

Barto wants Messi out. This article also really explains well the crazy poltiical shit going on over there.
Which is why Pep left Barça.
