It is Messi. Don't get me wrong, still can't believe it, but he is 33 and would probably only be here for 2/3 years. Giving a guy who has only been here for 3 year a slice of the pie seems excessive. If I was KDB, that would be the first thing I'd say at the next contract negotiations. I am a natural pessimist though, so am a always going to look through sceptical glasses before anything else

There's a reason Messi gets €140m every year from Barcelona and endorsements and KDB gets about €30m.

Negotiations are about what you're bringing to the table and as much as I love KDB the player, his brand is a mouse and Messi's is a hippo.

The equity (if it happens) or however Messi gets paid is only happening because the club will make so much money off him.

My take on this is that Messi is such a towering exception to everything, that KDB can't wait to play in the same team as the little man.

Does anybody else think Peps trying to convince Messi to stay?...
Possibly something along the lines of;
No Lionel don’t come to Manchester yet. Stay in Barcelona until this is sorted.
I know you’re anxious to get here but it’s best you stay put until everything is finalised.
Stay cool son.

That’s how I imagine it. Poor Lionel chomping at the bit to get started with us.

Do you know how many individual awards Xavi got before Messi burst on the scene?

None.

This is one of those rising tide/all boats situations. If Messi scores 50 goals next season, the guy who assisted 30 of them is going to get plenty of attention too. If we win the CL and League next season off the back of Messi being unplayable, everyone is going to benefit massively off the pitch as well as, you know, winning things.

I understand it's Messi and all, but does anyone feel a bit weird about a new signing getting a % of the CFG? I feel like it would be more fitting giving the likes of Aguero, Silva etc a very tiny % each
I don't care and not should those players. They've each already got fortunes it would take them hundreds of years to spend.

I can’t wait for the transfer window to shut.
Just so I don’t have to see that smug twat Kaveh Solhekol.
Every time he tells you something he turns to the camera with that smug look at me I know things look on his face.
Just a shame what he’s telling you, you already know cos someone else broke the story about 8 hours previous.
Absolute fuck knuckle.
He thinks he’s the Messi of transfer news, when in truth he’s more like Bony, slow and miles behind what’s actually going on.
TWAT!

Since they invaded here, imagine messi taking all the headlines next season and nothing they do matters, must be killing the little darlings

If Messi signs this forum is going to be a place to behold lol an additional 35 million members by Christmas I recon all complaining about the ticket office
And online store !!!!

The great thing about the equity idea is that it ties him to the club and/or CFG long term.

Beckham left MLS in 2012, but he's been an ambassador and spokesman for MLS for the past 8 years because it's growth was good for him.

Someone compared Messi to Michael Jordan and the Bulls, and I think that's a good comparison, Messi is going to be making people money for decades after he's retired. If you can tie City to that not just for 3 seasons as a player, but for a further 5 or 10 as some sort of City ambassador or even just as a very powerful ally, that'll be hugely profitable.
Bloody master stroke, surely.
