Laporta's first crisis: Financial vice president resigns after first week

Disagreements over role within club

Having seen Barcelona eliminated in the Champions League, Joan Laporta is ending his first week in office with a resignation from one of his board members.

Jaume Giro, the vice-president of club finances, handed in his resignation to the new club president on Saturday morning.

This news has been broken by Diari Ara, who point out that Giro is also in the process of looking for guarantees in order to be invested.

The Catalan lawyer is a former executive of Fundacio Caixabank and contributed a significant amount of money to Laporta's new board.

However, it was a disagreement between Giro and Laporta over the former's role on the board that ultimately led to a breakdown.

Giro had wanted to be president of club finances and, as such, he no longer wants to be part of the new management of Barcelona.

As for Laporta, he cannot be sworn in as president unless if board makes up 15 percent of the club's budget, which is around 125 million euros.

Now, the new president has to find a new financial strongman to fill this vacant role as he looks to stabilise a club with 1.17 billion euros of debt.

And the hits keep on coming! Felicita!

So on the Bluemoon podcast they seem to be suggesting the likely result will now be Messi stays at Barcelona and Aguero joining him and possibly Alaba that would be so disappoint having been thinking we might have them all playing for us next year even if they are past there peak and demanding huge money in wages on free transfers we should be really going all out for them

Just to make this clear - this was on our pre-Fulham show last Friday and was an interview with Rafael Hernandez, a Barcelona-supporting journalist. He said he didn't know for sure what would happen (as obviously things change!), but he feels the most like outcome is that Messi stays at Barcelona (with a paycut) and Barcelona go after Alaba. If that happens, he doesn't think Barcelona will have the money to be able to afford Aguero's wages.

This is also dependent on Aguero choosing to leave City, which is still far from certain.

Laporta, the new Barcelona president, had hinted that he would attempt to sign Aguero if he won the election - and that's as far as it got, with Rafael really unsure if they could afford the wages with Messi still on the books.

The Daily United.

If true, which I doubt.

But let's go with it.

Say's more about Messi.

Or is it just a sh*te journalists opinion?

Barcelona finally exited the Champions League with 'honour' after putting up a fight against PSG... and with Lionel Messi set to stay, teen sensations on the rise and a popular president back, it's not all doom and gloom at the Nou Camp

Is Messi paying attention to the sad news out of Paris involving his teammates? Doubt he feels like going there right now

Angel Di Maria substituted during the match yesterday after a 'very violent' home invasion robbery at his house where his wife was held hostage. And the same thing was happening with Marquinhos but at his parents’ house at the same time
