Given our current team and set up, has anyone given a thought to how/where we'd play him and in place of whom?

This a serious question? Messi would walk into any team in the world, first name of the team sheet, every week, every game.

well,it seems simple on paper

4411, with aguero up top and messi behind. but it puts silva wide, and neither messi nor silva are that pacy, meaning the other wide player need a lot of pace.

4321 is also an option, with both messi and silva having free roles, starting nominally out wide but free to drift anywhere. Again lack of pace is a concern, as well as the fact that the front 3 wont have any height/strength. also Messi is no longer that good at tracking back :P. May require a younger Yaya like presence in midfield

I wanted to put yaya in but just dont think he'll be here at the start of next season. I also to be honest don't think we will get pogba and koke but would be more than happy with samir in the team. A new left back by all accounts is a given and kurwaza seems the chosen one. Barkley IF he came would surely be an impact/lower team/squad player to start with. My team was also a big game team! ;-)

we are not talking about ball control. with the ball he is great, his close control allows him to beat people and packed defences. silva is similar although his dribbling is inferior

Messi has a great burst of pace. he lost it while he was injured last season but seems to be regaining it. that doesnt mean he is a pacy player! His acceleration over a short distance is (or at least used to be) breathtaking, but do not mix pace with acceleration and ball control
