Good point, La Liga do need the new superstars and that's the issue I have about the possibility of him coming to us.

However good he still is, he is 34 and this would be a very short term signing, and he is a Barca legend and always will be.

After losing Kun, Silva, Kompany and Yaya we need new icons, our icons.

Not every signing needs to be an icon though - if we’re offered the chance to sign Messi then I’d be wounded if we turned him down just because he’s somebody else’s legend.

I think this viewpoint is wholly rational and aligns with everything we already know about Messi, Barca and La Liga. BUT and it’s a big BUT the financial parameters are different today… As a few have said Barca‘s financial situation is a complete mess and the nature of their liabilities- fixed term contracts - makes it all but impossible to restructure their finances quickly. Sure Barca, La Liga and Messi can figure something out but it will take something off the scale, almost certainly outside the rules and something that will probably be illegal…. So on balance yes Messi will probably stay - and in a way I hope he does because the integrity of all concerned will take yet another monumental hit. I’d love to see Tebas front up yet another justification of local corruption.
Good points.
In the real world the directors would be forced to call in the receivers yet football somehow avoids normal financial practice.
The last year of necessary social change has showed the folly of allowing debt to rise unabated whilst curbing investment.
I am amazed that even KPM recently saw Barca as a financially better Club than City, do auditers do their job properly I wonder where football is concerned?

On la liga, is football that different to over here, that losing Messi would hurt attendances and tv rights that much? Ive seen people on Twitter claim that attendances would fall for the other clubs if Messi leaves. Is Spanish football not intrinsically woven into society where fans of other clubs won’t turn up week in week out if Messi is there or not?

Got more chance of another Lionel playing (all night long) at The Etihad ,but (don't dream its over ) you never know. lol!

The Spanish press very confident he stays.

The rest of the World press very confident he will lose a lot of money if he does stay and at the moment can’t sign until Barca get an enormous amount of wages off their books which they are nowhere near.

Such a weird situation.

So far, looking back, the Spanish press have been wrong just about every day for months. I suppose they only have to be right once whereas the rest have to correct every day.
At the cost of everyone else in the squad. Throwing lads in the B team because they are hesitant to renew on lower wages, cancelling contracts, bullying players, signing people then suddenly making them reduce wages by 30%. It's cold and calculating and it's gonna fuck them up further down the road. You cannot be this ruthless and expect no disharmony to fester. Messi was livid when they forced Suarez out, if he's not feeling the same about what's going on now then Barca cannot be his priority

Sounds to me like his priority is money. He surely must have enough. Why can't he play for the club be loves (!) but on a reduced wage (which would still be incredible) and thereby meaning other players could stay. This whole business shows, if it needed showing, that players are all about money and riches.
