Gab Marcotti saying on his podcast that his understanding from people at Barca is that there will be boring technical ways around paying Messi and they're not worried about him re-signing at all.

Worth mentioning as Marcotti is a cut above.
So they've gone from being in debt, needing to get the payroll down, can't register new signings and paying up players contracts to it being just a matter of time because Marcotti understands?

Are you sure you want to share that?

Boring technical ways is cancelling all the contracts of half the squad so Messi can sign whilst Barca struggle to get an 18man squad together for the first game.

If that is true, they’re more fucked than I originally thought. Trying to ship out numerous of players to sign up their ageing superstar is madness. How can a club with a stadium of 90000 capacity, the worlds best player, lucrative sponsorship deals and a famed academy be in so much shit? I always thought the Coutinho deal would come to bite them back on the arse. I’m not saying that deal is solely responsible, but £140m for that shit **** raised so many eyebrows that you had to question who ever was in charge was off their head.

Sounds to me like his priority is money. He surely must have enough. Why can't he play for the club be loves (!) but on a reduced wage (which would still be incredible) and thereby meaning other players could stay. This whole business shows, if it needed showing, that players are all about money and riches.
Let's say your place of work is having financial troubles because the people at the top are incompetent, you yourself do excellent work, a prized asset for your company that makes them more money than anybody else, would you be willing to lower your salary because others fucked up? They wouldn't survive as they are now without the money Messi makes them, he has every right to ask for the wages he gets

The problem is, it isn't just Messi's salary they have to pay.... it's also the 4 new signings. They also have to reduce 187m euros from the wage bill before they can even consider signing Messi and the other 4 new signings.

It seems to me is they're trying to save face and they don't want to let the fans know how bad of a state they're in. It's been around 7 weeks that Messi was supposed to sign his new contract.... and he's still no closer to doing it. Messi isn't going to wait that long. He may love the club, but he loves playing football even more. If they don't sort it out within the next 3 weeks, he'll probably move to another club.
Same with Kane. Doubt we'll hear anything til a couple of weeks(Tournament then Butlins or wherever)

Edit: Defo think something is going on we are not privy to. Someone at the club is trolling the Spanish league.

Too many people at the club looking to make their own millions off the back of it, the club is littered with random signings from across Europe and South America that are so bent its untrue. They have never been particuarly great st spending money as they always had Messi and an academy creating superstars. That has dried up and now the real Barcelona are being shown up. The whole thing needs to be taken apart and restarted.

Paying average players north of £500k p/w is insanity too.

As I understand it, although they may not be able to play Sergio, Garcia, Depay etc in La Liga, they could sell them on if the players requested, or could be persuaded to.
Raising funds by selling on free transfers could be an excellent piece of business.

It's all bent. Top to bottom.
That would be a depressing state of affairs
