Aye. That sounds right. But as Stefan has said, they can apply all the pressure they want there's no guarantee the league will bend and they will have to do A LOT of bending to make Messi's contract fit into their rules.

Tbf though La Liga is in the toilet commercially once Messi leaves Spanish shores. He's literally the only thing La Liga has going for it now, they know that as well. I'm sure there's a lot of brinksmanship going on.

Messi got 30 goals last season even at 34 in a really shit team and still got probably goal of the season in the champs league. if all we need him to do is finish off chances then it’s still a no brainier! Get him on a free fuck levy off not Kane, it’s the nature of the beast, unfortunately Kane and his agent were stupid enough to sign such a long contract that takes him to 30 years old. Unless levy drops his asking price £140-160 mill is still too much knowing there’s little Lionel Messi available. Marketing for CFG is priceless, and for their profile in the states, oh and approaching haaland or Kane next season when fees will be considerably lower just makes sense! 34 or 54 sign the fucker up!!

Always would have wanted Messi to join but after the last few attempts I'm not sure I'd want the club to get involved with the drama again. Our strength has been clear transfer plans and I hope they stick to it. Would be wholly different if he was 32 - This strikes me of more games from Barca and to an extent Messi - last year if he'd have opted out of his contract earlier (I believe there was a cut off point on July 1st for him to opt for a free) there would have not been the excuse of the £600m release clause and the crazy on/off press conference on that day in August. I think he purposely waited to engineer staying. Now he may well think Barca are not going to be competitive this time and he really does wish to leave but my gut feeling is we'd be better off without it all especially as we have got Jack in the ranks and a striker on the way.

It would be a dream to see Messi in a City shirt but at what cost? So reluctantly, it's a no from me.
