An economist has stated Messi sells 2m Barca shirts. It’s clearly a fictional figure to show Messi ‘pays for himself’ seeing as Barca only sell around 2m per annum.

Ive read the above article & there’s no fact based figures in it at all, it’s all conjecture, 2m this, 30% that without actually proving that’s the case

Do you also believe that the data analytical company who were paid by United to discover they have 650m fans worldwide? Or that City have breached FFP & are getting kicked out of Europe/Prem/football for cheating?

The only way to measure his value is to see how many shirts Barca sell this year vs last year & how much Barca’s revenue drops this year. I’m pretty confident they will sell more that 0 shirts & im also pretty certain their revenue won’t drop 30% which is over £200m. If not, I’m completely wrong & will be happy to admit it fella

No I don't believe that. I think (like most rational people) they will have combined all social media accounts that they have and just stuck a zero on the end. Pleases the masses that way.
Everything to do with City for me we have been as transparent as a club and the case has been closed. Obviously there's still the case with the league. But I don't believe we will kicked out of anything.
Everything and everybody else are just an irritation, the press, the opposition fans etc. I've learnt that if they've got enough time to think about and talk about us then we're obviously not that small a club are we. Constantly on the minds of every poor sole out there even if we are all plastic fans of an oil rich club hey?

There's a lovely story about a discussion between Joe Mercer and Stan Bowles in the 1960s, about how Joe explained business finance to Stan in very simple terms when he had requested a pay rise.

Stan wasn't the brightest button in the box, but even he came to understand how one player's demands could have a negative impact on a club.

I suspect from your (and numerous others on here) that you don't know much about how a big business is run.

Suffice to say that Messi is Stan times a few millions, but while Stan appreciated what Joe said and accepted it like a man, Lionel Messi took advantage of short-sighted owners and put himself before the club he supposedly loves by making excessive pay demands.

If you don't understand the longer term impact that's had on Barcelona's overall wage bill, you've got much to learn.

I understand that Messi brings in more money than he is paid as does Ronaldo and that they are unique in the football world in doing so. I don’t think Stan was in that category.

There are many references to this fact in this thread. It doesn’t matter how much Messi is paid if he brings in excess of that figure.

How Messi negotiates how much he is paid is irrelevant, to me at least. I think you you are concentrating on one side of the equation while ignoring the other.

Some guys on twitter have claimed he had another 'final' offer from Barcelona. ESPN argentina then reported that some guys on twitter have claimed so. A plane presumably registered to him has flown to ibiza. Nobody knows who if anyone was on it. Some guys on twitter claimed Laporta is also in ibiza. He got there pretty quickly. The plane then went on to Argentina. Probably to pick up his dad. Who is in Spain. Maybe. PSG haven't cancelled the eiffel tower for today yet. Nor yesterday's medical. Nor the one on sunday. Meanwhile Pep and messi have spoken. But only a few of us know. Parisians are still turning up at the airport. Or they might not be, could be yesterday's photos. Messi is evaluating Chelsea's offer, PSG are still favourites, there are other offers on the table too, but there are only two. And one is from Barcelona obviously.

On what basis is Messi the best player in the world. GOAT for sure. But he's not timeless. The excuse for his club's decline seems to be that it's the other players, well we'll see wont we when he goes to PSG. If you are all correct then all things being equal they should win the Champions League now. IMO they will get dumped out the moment they play a decent side, because Messi will further destabilise an already unbalanced team.

FOotball is a team game. These great indivdual players (Ronaldo and Messi) now detract from their teams so that their individual stats are maintained but the performance of their side drops.
