Genuinely sensational transfer window from PSG. It was before Messi in truth. It's hard to believe we couldn't be a more attractive proposition for Messi given the people we have at the club with links to him but if he wasn't coming here, PSG is the easiest alternative to stomach.

If it somehow came out that we didn't go all in for him like some people are convincing themselves of, it would be one of the biggest errors in football. I have more trust in the people in charge and don't believe for a single second we wasn't doing everything we could to bring him here considering we've spent a decade plnning for this, he's simply chosen elsewhere and nothing we can do about that. Not everything goes our way.

Messi makes any team champions league contenders. When that team has reached the final and semi final in the last two years, has added another 4 players to their squad that makes them better and then gets Messi on top of that, that makes them strong favourites. Anybody that thinks otherwise is deluding themselves.

PSG fans must be absolutely buzzing at the prospect of seeing Messi neymar and Mbappe run riot.

Whilst I can understand going for Messi now would have hit us financially in the short term especially after our heavy investment into Grealish & most likely Kane, I still can't dismiss the fact we have missed out in the long term.

Like others have mentioned earlier, I reckon Messi would have elevated MCFC onto a global level & sped up the process which ultimately CFG are aiming for. Of course for the old school this isn't what football is about. However, with football its now a business. It would have also helped broken the ceiling with future Mbappe & Haaland superstar prospects not hesitating to join us rather than past comments made by Mbappe saying no to City but not Pep. i.e. if Messi wore the blue shirt then its good enough for anyone to join which would help us once Pep's reign is over. Furthermore, sponsorship deals would have increased & larger companies would be willing to splash more money with us which help us along the FFP road & get our sponsorship income along the same lines which the rags have established.

However, with the acquisition of Grealish & possibly Kane I think we'll do well commercially from a domestic point of view.

Once again some lazy journalism.

The French income tax system is the same tiered/progressive tax system as the UK. i.e. your pay amount is divided & taxed at different % brackets. 10k to 25k = 11%; 25k to 73k = 30%; 73k to 158k = 41%; 158k over = 45%

The whole of his reported £1m a week won't be taxed @ 45% which is what the DM have done to conclude the £550,000 number.
OK, so using your numbers he'll be earning an extra £389 a week more than the DM suggests - I'm sure that will be a big relief to him.

Haha not quite fella.

If you looked into this in more detail the tax brackets I've quoted are in Euros which I would fathom is the currency they use in France :-)

The journo has relayed the take home pay numbers in sterling which is even more of a ball park. Not suggesting there's going to be a 50% difference but its inaccurate reporting as well as at the time say time misleading the general public on how a high profile individual gets a flat rate tax percentage.

Also as others have mentioned, fairly sure PSG & Snr Messi have employed some rather creative accountants to ensure SPVs are used to gain as much tax relief as possible.

PSG Instagram followers already rose like 8M. And they haven‘t announced him yet + he hasn‘t played his first game.

We have 25.5m thats like third of ours already. PSG going to be level to the likes of Real, Barca in terms of brand appeal. Totally worth every penny.

Seems Messi has understood the prem is too full on for him now. Likely to embarrass himself starting here at 34. This league is brutal.
If we miss out on players like Messi, Mbappe and Haaland then so be it.
We will still attract our share of top top players.
Although I would have loved Messi, I feel Grealish and Kane (potentially) could be better in a sporting, and business sense.
Time will tell.
