He was the top goal scorer in Europe last season.

He's still miles better than any player we have or have ever had.

Not suggesting he isn't or not still the worlds best... however I'd rather us look for, recruit & develop the next Messi/Ronaldo/Naymar. No doubt he'd bring in the money though in sponsorship & shirt sales.

Barcelona are at a big crossroads in what you could call their new future. The dominating squad they had is dwindling and Messi at the moment is being asked to play the role of Xavi, Iniesta and his own, which as great as Messi is, he cannot do.

Barcelona cannot afford to lose him. If anyone has been to Barcelona as a holiday, you would have realised how highly Messi is revered. He is basically a catalonia god (albeit an argentinian). With Neymar gone, there would be riots galore if he left too

We have in Diaz a possible world beater, and in Jesus a possible Ronaldo (the brazilian Ronaldo)

Exactly... So why not make sure we develop them right & not spend £250m+ on Messi? Would love Messi don't get me wrong but I fear it's too late & we should of gone all out years ago.

Tend to agree and if reports are to be believed we were closest last summer. At the end of the day he is too loved at Barca and i dont think he would ever leave unless there was major disasters going on at board level. At the minute the fact he is being asked to do too much wont turn head enough because Barca have the money to spend to try and reinforce.

He'd think about it, but ultimately he would stay at Barca, then finish his career back in Argentina.
Barca have £150m + burning a hole in their pocket from the Neymar sale, if they land Coutinho, they will have a willing water boy to fill the gap left, without the desire to upstage Messi

The one thing i will say is that Barcelona have shot themselves in the foot with his realease clause, which (correct me if i am wrong) is somewhere around tbe £230m mark.....

Unless we get him on a free next year (if the rumours are true he hasn't signed an extension) he won't be rocking up at the etihad anytime soon. I can't see us going near his release clause.
