I find it very odd that he reportedly has so much power at that club, including who should and should not be in the team.

Is it even true? Bizzare.

Messi if he ever left Barcelona would have to face fitting into a new team system, and probably a new league, and looking at how he fares with Argentina I'm not sure it's in him. Would have players queuing up to take him out, so they can tell their kids they once put Messi on his arse.

Maybe pep would be the best chance to know his game, but can't ever see it.

Is this some new Cold, wet night at Stoke variant? LOL
Players have been queuing up to take him out all his career. In general play La Liga is probably dirtier than EPL. (EPL seems more physical in the boxes.)
BTW... Have you seen Argentina WITHOUT Messi? It's beyond shocking.

At any age he would come to the prem and tear it to shreds, we are the best club in the world (more so than Barca at the minute) to take full advantage of his abilities. Id love to see him have a season here then him and Kun go off back to Argentina together, just as the prophecies written.

Not for me, too much of a superstar for our "team". We don't sign galacticos, and nor should we

I wouldn't even want him now. We're covered there and he is too old to disturb the current order in this team. Can't see him wanting to come though. As FCBarca said, that time where everyone would be good in that transfer (well, apart from Barcelona) was 3-4 years ago. We were ideal and most logical destination for him, but it just didn't materialize.

He had a big interview with local paper Sport (Youtube vid with eng subs), an in-depth interview on a variety of topics that he has rarely done - a pretty good one, definitely recommend. Very interesting, in particular what he had to say about his ability to walk away free next season. Even more interesting is how Sport & MD have publicized it, minimizing one little important qualifier he also mentioned:

Esta es mi casa y no quiero irme

Meaning 'This is my home and I do not want to leave it'

Except, what he said was Esta es mi casa y no quiero irme...pero quiero ganar

The qualifier being 'but I want to win' and I think that is key. Whether this is merely a tactic to influence sporting decisions, justifiably considering the poor sporting direction in recent years, or a legitimate warning that he wants to stay but will leave if changes aren't made. Now, in the same interview he did speak positively about the prospect of Puyol being named the new sporting director (Widely rumoured atm) but nothing is clear. He's settled but could be something afoot

He spoke about Neymar and he hadn't been so direct on the topic before so while I have long been against his return - I feel if he feels it is best for Barca, fans will have to accept it since I believe he has the club's best interests at heart

If he was 45 i'd sign him.

Best player to ever play the game. Said in full knowledge I haven't seen every player to play the game.

Whenever anyone at City talks about signing Messi I can't help but think of Rodney! And had Sergio ever signed for someone else, played the games he has and scored the goals, would we consider signing him?

Yes there is a full thread on a Barca Fan twitter

He has left the door open , BUT can see him signing a big new contract again
