I can't quite tell if this thread is 100% serious, but then again any talk of signing one of the two world's best players will always hold a little doubt!

On another note, does anyone else think that IF Messi came to us, that Ronaldo might have a little re-think about the dwellers in Salford?

They would obviously be immense and despite City’s resources such a move would be complicated by Financial Fair Play.
But a complex playing/commercial/image rights deal with Nike assuming a major role could get around regulations.
And I understand several super agents and brokers are actively looking at piecing together a deal.

Interesting stuff.

It's not as complicated as people suggest. If you look at our wage bill and our squad - there's room for one more superstar wage. Even if Messi were to command 500k a week, that's 24 million pounds a year. Add into that a signing on fee which would probably be close to 40/50 million pounds.

The transfer would pay for itself within 12 months. As far as putting City on the map goes - you sign Messi, you can sign literally anyone else you want. It's no brainer and personally I think it's one of the major reasons why Txiki in particular was attractive as a DoF. He has a direct line into the greatest player ever to play the game, and if anyone can make the transfer happen, he can.

Why would having a direct line to Maradonna help pull this off?

He's talking about Phil Jones, mate.

Yes, why not, especially if he wants to add a Europa League medal to his collection next season. I am sure him and his advisors have City down as a potential move away from the Nou Camp at the moment.
