I actually think he would play the Silva role if he came here, sometimes stepping in as the false 9.

What I know for certain though is if he actually signs for us I will jizz my pants

I agree. He may occasionally play on the wing but I would imagine he would play mostly centrally.

Imagine Messi-de Bruyne in midfield. Insane.

Apologies to fellow Blues who thought there was a major development with Messi to City when opening up this thread.

Just wanted to express my thoughts after learning from the positive CAS outcome this week & whether going after & acquiring a player of Messi’s global stature both on & off the pitch would actually help us in the longer term from future targeting?

My thought process on this one is apart from the initial media vitriol, surely Messi as a global product who is the golden star of European football & lines UEFA & sponsor's pockets with huge amounts of cash may potentially change the constant negative media rhetoric towards the club should he join City. At the end of the day money talks & UEFA & co may need to begin accepting us if they don’t want to shoot themselves in the foot by campaigning/targeting against a football club who has a player of Messi’s financial weight & disrupt their own revenue streams.

Of course it doesn’t need to be Messi, but I couldn’t think of anyone else who could make a major dent in UEFA’s brand of European football attached with global sponsors apart from Ronaldo – and that’s never going to happen for City, nor should it!

If it's abut sponsorship, Raheem Sterling is our global superstar. MASSIVE deal with Gillette and more will follow, I still think Puma are trying to nab him from Nike too. New City contract can't be too far away either. Has captained England albeit for one game and Southgate knows he's undroppable. City want him as synonymous with the club as Messi is to Barca or Ronaldo was to Real.

Would he rather see out his career silkily dribbling around Matthieu Flamini in Getafe or does he fancy getting the shit kicked out of him by Phil Bardsley?

I'd like to see Messi in the Premier League just for the sake of it.

I remember that friendly between Argentina vs Italy at the Etihad a few years back and I know many bought tickets just to see Messi play (even though he didn't in the end)
