Yep, Barca are in a right mess. The decision that Messi has is, does he want to continue carrying the team as he has done even more than ever.

He would be legend status regardless of if he did leave Barca as the fans I don't think would blame him.

It gets you in trouble because they only have their own interests at heart. Currently we have no debt and an infrastructure that’s as strong as it gets. That’s not trouble to me. Borrowing and leveraging it as bad as it gets imo, as it stands they may not have to answer to the footballing gods for their unstable decision making but they will have to answer to their creditors eventually. What then ?
 
There has been numerous reports over the last year or so that they are £800 million in debt. Had to borrow money to buy Griezmann etc. There has to be a point where someone says enough is enough and they have to start paying it back... The amount of interest they would pay per year just to service an £800 million loan would have a serious effect on their ability to compete at the top. Keeping Messi for as long as possible will be one of their main priorities as he is the proverbial golden goose..
