No way will we sign Messi and I'd be surprised if he was even on our list of serious targets.
It's the silly season re: transfers for the tabloids. Only international friendlies to write about.
To be honest it's probably been done so they can go with the 'Messi snubs City' story in a few weeks.

Which is a wise attitude. Everything was in place for Isco but a financial demand we weren't prepared to meet scuppered it. However that doesn't mean we aren't serious about attempting to do this.

He's 'only' actually on £250k a week wages, the rest is image rights and commercial sponsorships which come with him. However it's still a lot of money and while it's not conclusive proof, this possibly explains why we're pruning our wage bill dramatically.

No idea but I'd happily settle for that gross!

I dare say I would too. The only reason I mention it is because the answer would make several million pounds a year difference on payroll. I know it's common practice in some countries to quote net.
