fucking hell these journlalists, there's a global pandemic! let the man breathe

The whole thing does feel a little bit like that hunt bit of the Circle (the book, which is great, not the film, which is dogshit).

You can see now where Manchester City were going with the City Football Group and why Silverlake Investments got onboard. Barcelona are global but not in quite the same way as City football group with a football club in most continents including the MSL. Messi and a global football group would be an ideal fit.

There are 1.4 billion people in China. They love Messi. And City have a Chinese equity partner. We don't know what exactly is coming should City sign Messi, but expect massive investment and sponsorship from China and Japan incidentally where City have football clubs.

The football writers scoffed at City. Some of their methodist writers thought it was about soft-power. It wasn't it was about commercial opportunity and participating in the greatest sport on the planer. Everyone loves football. And Manchester City can go global like no other club. City's equity structure is split 3 ways: Sino-Arab-US. Looks obvious now where the Manchester City takeover was heading. Some focused on soft-power but they got it wrong. Football is a business opportunity for those with the commercial and political connections to pull it off. This will be an interesting back-drop to the football where Manchester City could take centre-stage.

Exactly.

Messi changes everything, not just now, but for the future and puts City front, left and center for the next Messi.

Revenue wise we will be the biggest club in world football within a few years.

So a little caution re: the meeting between Jorge Messi and Barca president ... as soon as the meeting ends and news comes out that a meeting has taken place ... I don’t expect them two standing side by side giving a statement or press conference afterwards ... so expect the first leaks coming out of Barca camp via the Spanish media ... which will all inevitably be towards Barca and favouring their president’s tough stance etc etc ... then a few hours later the Messi camp would leak via their own sources and mostly out of Argentinian media which would probably give the news that we all like :)

So just a little caution about not jumping to conclusions on what Spanish media reports at first ... as usual there’d be plenty on here saying it’s over, not happening, he’s staying etc etc. ... but just give it till tomorrow for the real news to come out and not the posturing Barca has been doing via their chums.

Messi playing football for City is just a tiny bit of the plan always has been ! This has always been about moving the perceived idea of City being a moneybags club to City being a world player .

From a financial perspective, allocating/issuing equity to Messi as a payment is quite innovative (not entirely a new concept mind) in football.

for city, it would be like paying/issuing Messi with ‘x’ amount in equity which would be his investment in city (have a shareholding).

from a cash flow perspective, rather than have an outgoing in expenses (P&L), City use this as additional investment (carry it on the balance sheet) and generate further revenue (a given with the exposure messi provides).

higher revenue increases the value of the shares growing both messi’s investment and other shareholders.

trying to compare this as a transaction and it would be something like an acquisition by city of a revenue generating entity. Whereby city’s acquisition is more an investment in themselves to further enhance their revenue generation capacity.

In financial world, acquisition/merger of CYBG and Virgin money comes to mind in the last couple of years.

I think from a financial perspective, this is not going to cause any issues with ffp unless of course ffp is revised to address this (using cas verdict as an excuse to revise the rules).
Even then, It would be a case of Uefa cutting off the nose to spite the face by isolating city with Messi in their team and their commercial appeal at least on the short term.

quoting this to ensure more people read it.

Well his dad is mow in Barcelona...so it is crunch time.

How we all feeling ?

As we should really know by end of play tonight as to what his decision is

What's soft power in English? And what's a Methodist writer?
