That would require Messi to decide he is happy to stay at Barca. Otherwise, he won't be staying there, no matter what.
Problem is the Barcelona president does not want to negotiate at any price . He is obsessed with not being the guy who sold Messi.
Bang on this.I think one thing is now clear... we can't secure him on a free transfer as we were hoping.
The question is, are we willing to pay a significant sum plus his wages to bring him here ?
Ball is in our court IMO.
I trust the club with it. If we walk away, it will be for the right reasons.
We aren't a club that will be held to ransom any more.
Hence why I said it's "still a big if".Messi has not told Barca's board he will see out his contract - he claims he's not a Barcelona player. He's not at training is he.
Good luck to him if he stays at Barcelona this season but imo we shouldn't be looking to sign him for next season at 34.
Like Simon Jordan and others have said If Barcelona don't come to an agreement to sell (no matter how much he wants to leave) they keep him.And that would require Messi to be willing to throw away one of his 3 good seasons left under Koeman, with this squad.
The ball is in the court with Messi and Barca. City at this moment are on the sidelines waiting for Messi - Barca to play out then we are in. IMOI think one thing is now clear... we can't secure him on a free transfer as we were hoping.

It’s always amusing watching certain posters projecting their own neuroses and insecurities onto threads like this. Virtually none of us have a fucking clue what’s going on and yet people start wetting their nickers at some meaningless Tweet from some no-mark sat in his bedroom ffs. Will the nervous Nellies on this thread stop believing the codswallop on Twitter, and then expressing their fears on here.
We are negotiating for the greatest player in history. It’s a huge deal with tremendous implication for us and European football. How about we give it time to play out. These sorts of deals are not completed overnight.
