From memory there were two metro lines (blue and yellow?) and the City fans were advised to avoid using one of them prior to the match.

However, our hotel was next to the line that we weren't supposed to use. This wasn't a problem before the game, and we virtually walked a complete lap around the stadium, but after the game everyone was frogmarched down one particular route to the other line.

To be honest I might have adopted a different approach if I'd been on my own, but I could sense that my Mrs was feeling intimidated by the Riot Police.

You might be okay in the Radisson, but to save any hassle I've booked one near the centre
 
My first European away trip was in April 1970, when we played Schalke. I was in Vienna for the final, naturally.

Over the years, I’ve seen City play close to 90 times in Europe, and that’s counting pre-season games as well as UEFA competitions.

It’s incredible how things have changed regarding the way we are treated. Plenty of people on here will remember the disgraceful organisation outside San Siro before the game when we played Atalanta. Santander was another joke, and what can we say about Istanbul?

We are treated like sheep in countries like Spain, Italy and Portugal. The policing is completely over the top, and it’s just as well that we’re a pretty peaceful lot; otherwise, there have been many occasions when a riot was very close.

In Germany we have no such problems. Everyone is normally let out together, and I’ve never seen any trouble.

Sporting away last time was ridiculous. As I drove down from Salamanca I had my hotel in the north of the city, near the Oriente train station, but there was no way that the robocops would allow me to get out of the police escort and travel back there. Instead, like everyone else, we were herded like sheep back to the metro station, shoved on a non-stop train down to Rossio Square, and left to make our own way back to our digs.

This time, I’ll be staying in the city centre, so I’ll only have to walk a few hundred yards to my hostel.

I was with the Mrs, herded to the metro but just before it we swerved off and walked into town so yes you can

Afterwards was a complete farce.
Our hotel was walking distance from the stadium, but after being kept behind for an hour we were literally frogmarched to a different metro and then forced onto a train that only stopped in the centre. We then had to catch a taxi back to our hotel with the stadium floodlights still shining over the Hotel Reception Door

I took mrs death to Hull City away on a cold Boxing Day a number of years ago, She vowed never to attend another match no matter where it was played …

RESULT…. :-) I’ve been scaring the UK & Europe to death on my own ever since …
 
Was in Lisbon for a short holiday in April . The place is absolutely huge and very busy . One area stood out for me though and was very nice near the ferry port on the river . It is very similar to San Francisco with steep streets with trams leading to the river / sea . Walk down the streets fine but the tram back up only costs 30 cents or so . There are loads of bars here in a pleasant vibrant area and a genuine fantastic O’Gillins Irish bar with proper Guinness at around €6.50 a pint .
Ps Lisbon is a football crazy place ! I found a lot of the locals follow Man City with our strong contingent of Portuguese players . Bernie and Ruben have galactico status over there !

Anyone managed to find decent priced flights for this everything I’ve seen is like a long stop or direct is near enough £500

There’s plenty from Gatwick and Stansted on the Monday in the £60, £70 range.

Obviously got to factor in getting there.

There’s not been anything direct from Manchester for less than about £300 one way, since the draw was made.
