This is embarrasing !! Going backwards our list of regular Captains.

Vinny - Tevez - Kolo - Dunne - Distin - ?

Who was Captain before Distin ?

Ali B I think was the regular captain for the final season at MR, but my memory could be a bit flaky, I also seem to remember him leading out the team for the freindly against Barca.

Stuart Pearce?

The 1st captain I can remember at City was Paul Power .
I think Tony Coton was also a captain at City .

Some of the major ones to be going on with:-

Billy Meredith (FA Cup1904)
Max Woosnam (multi-talented all round sportsman)
Jimmy McMullan (1926 FA Cup losing Finalist)
Sam Cowan (FA Cup 1934 and losing finalist 1933)
Sam Barkas (League Title 1937)
Roy Paul (FA Cup 1956 and losing finalist 1955)
Johnny Crossan (1966 Div 2 Title)
Tony Book (League Title 1968, FA Cup 1969, League Cup 1970, European Cup Winners Cup 1970)
Mike Summerbee (1974 League Cup losing finalist)
Mike Doyle (League Cup 1976 )
Paul Power (FA Cup losing finalist 1981)
Mick McCarthy
Andy Morrison (Div 2 Play-off Final 1999)
Stuart Pearce (2002 Div 1 title)
Richard Dunne (Joan Gamper Trophy 2009)
Carlos Tevez (FA Cup 2011)
Vincent Kompany ( Prem League Title 2012, 2014 and League Cup 2014)

Who would be regarded as Citys' greatest ever captain - Tony Book ?

I assume Tony Book would have lifted more trophies thus far than anyone else (1 League Title, 1 FA Cup, 1 League Cup, 1 Cup Winners Cup, 1 Charity Shield) = 5 . Next Vinnie (2 League Titles, 1 League Cup, 1 Charity Shield) = 4. Thus Vinnie needs 2 more to beat Tony as Captain, and then come back as City Manager and win at least the League Cup !

Who would be City supporters favourite captain ? Mike Doyle for me

@MCFC: On this day in 1958, one of City's greatest-ever players Billy Meredith passes away. #mcfc <a class="postlink" href="http://twitter.com/MCFC/status/589703996274683904/photo/1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://twitter.com/MCFC/status/58970399 ... 04/photo/1</a>

Many years ago, when I was employed at a Wythenshawe school then called Baguley Hall (some ancient BMs may remember it), I rang City to see if one of their players would come along to show the school football team a few tricks of the trade.

They sent the first team captain down (I won't say who it was, as that would date me) and he spent all afternoon coaching and inspiring the lads (free of charge).

Can you imagine phoning a Premier League club these days and getting their skipper to come along and coach a school side?

I would have guessed at Dave Ewing, but in my now befuddled old age, I am not sure if he was Skipper.

Others
Eli Fletcher captained City from 1919 for a few years (up to 1925 I think) and was captain when City first played at Maine Road in Aug 1923
Steve Redmond (in 1988 became City's youngest ever captain)
David Weir (I think) - scored goal in City's first ever Derby win v Utd in 1891 in the Manchester Cup Final
William Sumner - City's first ever captain in 1880 (for St. Marks of Gorton)

Greatest ever captain, I think either Doyle or Book - Doyle for me just.
