First car I ever owned was a Vauxhall Viva in custard yellow.If it had been a boat then it would have sunk.The sills were rotten as a pear.
The gentleman sales executive said it would piss another MOT and was in fair fettle so I gave him my £180 and bade him good day.That was back in 1978 and the first time I had ever been had over for a fat lad.

The second time I had been had over for a fat lad was with my second car a Hillman Avenger bought privately from a farmer.He said it had only been used to ferry his sheep to pasture and deliver his prize winning chickens to market and that is why it was scruffy and needed a valet and was so cheep.Fact of the matter was it leaked and had black bin bags kippered with underseal under the floor as a temp fix and also to flash it up it I had to put it in gear and rock it back and forth to free the starter.He said this was normal and I gave him my £180 and bade him good day.

After that my luck changed and I had a triumph dolomite auto with twin carb and when you slammed the peddle down it dropped a gear and was shit off a shovel.That was also finished in custard yellow.An 850 mini and a mini metro and a S class Capri like Bodie and Doyles in black.A Sierra came next and then spent my errant youth in Pimhole Fold keeping them going with the help of a Haynes Manuel and a trusty spanner.Nowadays you cant touch a car as it's all computers and chips.

Cars are a lot better these days and in order to survive I lease everything.I have a Hyundai 110i SE that is the doggies bollocks of small cars.I ripped the arse of it to southhampton and back @80mph all the way and it had loads in reserve.If law enforcement is looking in then I made that last bit up.Its £104 a month for a 4 year lease then throw the bugger back.Cheaper than the bus and it's a blue !

Up to the chevette the quality of the cars were crap, all scrapped before 100k. Easily the best was the Avensis, 380k on the clock before the scrapyard beckoned.
